Hello! My name is Lacy Pontes, the owner and creator of Starlight Stitches, a small, handmade children's clothing and cloth diaper business. I am a mom to identical twin girls, Orion and Sunny. They are my drive, my passion, my life. My husband Jeff and I have been dreaming for some time about a new business model. One that supports stay-at-home parents, allowing them to contribute to their household income without having to send their children off for care. One that builds community, provides a support system, and inspires creativity. Our dream is coming to fruition! We recently rented a commercial/retail space and hired 15 amazing women who share our vision of supporting small businesses and producing quality, handmade items. We have created a fun, vibrant work studio, a cooperative preschool/play-space, and an abundantly stocked retail showroom! Starlight Stitches moms and dads bring their children to work with them! Instead of endlessly searching for the elusive affordable/quality daycare, our employees are involved in creating a safe, engaging, nurturing and socially-conscious learning environment for their children at our work studio. Parents staff the children’s room and are responsible for activity planning/curriculum, so we reap the benefits of a preschool catered to our shared values. Our moms often wear and nurse their babies while working at the studio. Starlight Stitches has been creating quality handmade products for children since 2012. We have received incredible feedback and support from our customers. We love providing the very best products and services to each and every customer. Listening to our customers, learning from our mistakes and improving our process has helped us evolve into the unique, dynamic and inspiring company we are today! We are ecstatic that our little business is growing! We continue to create more adorable products, expand our retail operation to include more handmade, socially-conscious merchandise, and build on the incredible community that we have already started to form! This innovative business model that focuses more on our customers and employees than our pocketbook, however, will not generate a profit as quickly as a traditional business.
