Very nice and easy to work with. Even suggested she could add on a tutu and flowered headband to the elephant to make it more girly for my "princess" dd.

Got it today, and it's adorable. Sewing looks great. I can't give it to DD for her reaction as it is a bday gift, but I know she's going to love it.

Communication was great. I told Joyce what I'd like to order, she sent me an invoice, and let me know that I was on her list and the doll and clothes would arrive in time for Christmas. The package arrived the Friday before Christmas, in time to get everything under the tree.

Product review:
"Maggie" is a beautiful doll. My YDD loves her and was so excited to have her own baby since my ODD had recieved one a month earlier for her Birthday. The workmanship is wonderful, and I wish we could have a whole houseful of Joy's dolls.

Product review:
This doll is too cute for words. It is perfect for my YDD's hands and my ODD likes it too. Considering they each have larger (12 and 14") dolls of their own, they will be happy sharing the little one, and they were excited to see a new baby for their collection.

When/Where: HC, July 2007

What: 14" custom doll and 12" custom doll

Customer Service:

A little disappointing. It may be unfair to have had high expectations because I was making a large order, especially for a first time buyer (2 dolls and two custom child outfits), but I thought Joyce would be more responsive. I will say she was always incredibly friendly, polite and professional in her correspondence.

7/11/07: bought 14” custom doll slot from HillCountry Dollmaker on hc. I emailed her the same day, saying that I intended to also buy a 12” doll slot, and also wanted matching child outfits to go with the dolls. I wanted to buy a bit at a time and have all shipped together, as it was intended as a Christmas present. Joyce emailed back and said she was happy to do all of these things, and happy to mail together at the end.

We corresponded closely about the first doll. Then I heard nothing until 8/18, when I got nervous and emailed her again, to remind her I intended to order a second doll, and see how things were going. She reassured me that there would be no problem with me ordering the second doll, and let me know that the wool was drying for the first. I asked her at this point to let me know when the first doll was done. She offered to speed things up, I told her it wasn’t necessary.

The next time I emailed was 10/9, because I was nervous since I hadn’t had any updates. She said to go ahead and purchase the next doll slot, so I did. When I did she told me that it was good I had done so then, because I just squeezed in with her last Christmas orders, which bothered me a bit because she told me it was okay to wait to order in the first place, and this was the second time I had checked in to see if I should pay for the second doll yet.

October 10 she asked me for the measurements for my kids so she could price bamboo velour for me, which I wanted. October 18th I got these measurements to her. October 24 she told me she could not do the bamboo velour for the kids clothes because her good sewing machine had gone out of commission. I switched my choice to French Terry, then agreed with her to cotton velour.

November 8th she emailed me to tell me that she had been shorted on her velour order. She said she thought she could get the dolls done, but didn’t think she could do the matching kids outfits for in time for Christmas. After this I found another WAHM to do the kids outfits, Joyce agreed to send the doll clothes, undyed to that WAHM so she could dye the kids clothes and the doll clothes together so they would match, and ship the naked dolls to me. I asked for a small refund since the doll clothes would not be dyed so my customs were not technically finished, and I would be paying to ship to the other WAHM as well as myself, but Joyce told me she did not feel comfortable refunding anything since she considers the dye-ing of the doll clothes free. I told her that since she was paying the shipping to both me and the other WAHM I was satisfied with that as a refund.

I received the dolls Friday, November 29.

I understand that a lot of things were out of Joyce’s control here, but I was very disappointed that she agreed she could make matching child outfits for me back in July, but no longer had the time to do so in November. I feel her time could have been managed better on my order, since she had months to complete. I was also uncomfortable with the sparse communication, which was mostly initiated by me. These dolls are the main gift for my children this Christmas, and I have spent a great deal of time nervous that I would not be receiving them at all.

Product: Amazing. The dolls are just gorgeous. I love them both, and think they will make incredible gifts, and expect that my children will love them very much.

Edited to add: As noted, Joyce mailed the doll clothes to another WAHM to be dyed. When they arrived, the other WAHM discovered that the package was missing one of the pockets for the shirts. The other WAHM made a pocket for that shirt out of material she had on hand for me.

05 Dec 2007- Response from Joyce:
I am sorry Stephanie was disappointed in my customer service. When Stephanie ordered her first doll in July, she let me know it was for Christmas and asked if it would be okay for her to order a second doll later and the sweatsuits so that I could combine shipping for her. I agreed and set about making appropriate progress on the first doll, but since it was a Christmas order and I was awaiting her availability of funds to order the other things, I didn't realize she needed updates - we never agreed on a set timetable of updates. (I know some WAHMs have an update schedule available -however I am always glad to answer e-mails concerning the progress of an order - and I did answer Stephanie's, so I do not consider that sparse communication - I always answer my e-mails and pm's) I fully intended to get her order to her well in advance of Christmas and in fact when she e-mailed for an update - I offered to speed up the doll, if she needed me to, and she said she didn't. I did have the doll within hours of completion but was awaiting the rest of her order. When she e-mailed to order the 2nd doll and I mentioned she was ordering it just as I was filling up my last Christmas slots, she seemed offended, but I in no way inferred I was not remembering the rest of her order but I took her order and I put the production of this second doll ahead of others who had ordered and paid ahead of it.. I understand the disappointment in the sweatsuits - they did look forseeable that I could do them in July, however, they were not ordered, nor were the measurements sent so I could even come up with an estimate until October by which time I was already in the middle of Christmas orders for others who had ordered and paid before that time, and I did have unforseen circumstances that kept me from still trying to accomodate her.

Purchased Sept 07 from Hillcountry Dollmaker store

Hoppy Bunny with embroidered features (requested)

Item arrived quickly and was well-packaged.

This was purchased as a gift for a dear friend's little girl who is turning one. She (and the baby) love it! The bunny is the perfect size for Lydia, and she kisses it "a lot". I've been told that the embroidery is perfect, and that the bunny is incredibly well-made. You can't go wrong purchasing from Joyce; she is such a kind and gentle woman who puts a lot of love in what she crafts. Thank you Joyce!

When and where purchased:
Through email in August 2007

Specific item:

matching pj's for Bella and her dolls.

Customer service:

Joyce has been so sweet to work with. I sent her an email asking if she could make matching pj's for Bella's and her dolls for Bella's birthday. She responded to my emails very quickly and gave lots of different options.

Product review:

These pj's are so cute. Bella and her american girl doll have matching pajamas that were dyed by Joyce and have a beautiful rose on the top. The attention to detail is amazing and the sewing perfection. She then made a sleep sac and tie-on dipe for Bella's bitty baby that is in a velour but tie-dyed the same colors with the same rose-bud at the collar.
Bella is going to be so thrilled to be able to match both her babies instead of just one at her birthday. I am extremely pleased with this purchase and see many more Joyce creations in our future.
