I am Theresa, the WAHM behind Crystal City Fibers.

I am a mom of 3, Spinning, and Dyeing to make some extra income for the household.

I started on my crafty career as a small child, led on by my mother's craftiness. I learned to sew and crochet by the age of 10, and then for many years moved on to other crafts, including ceramics, painting, and wood-carving. I was only marginally skilled at any of those things, and when I became an adult, I gave them up too.

Crafting came back into my life when my son was born, and I started crocheting things for him. After doing research, I decided to try cloth diapers. But, why should I buy them? I had a sewing machine, and some old clothes! and who needs a pattern, right?

I learned the hard way that creating a pattern takes a lot of work, but eventually had a pattern I liked, that worked. From there came my first business, Beeba Bottoms Diapers.

I also wanted to make wool covers for him... but Finding a free pattern (because of course, I was a bit of a cheapskate then, or maybe I just needed extra challenge, who knows) for crochet was next to impossible.

Since crochet wasn't making me happy anymore, I taught myself to knit, and on my first knit item, the kitchener stitch too. that was fun.

Fast forward nearly 3 years, and I was getting bored of commercial yarns and plain jane stitch markers. of course, being me, I was not about to go spending the money for good handspun or dyed yarns, or pretty stitch markers... not when I could do that.

I made myself a toy wheel spindle and that was the end of me. I was addicted to spinning, and the amazing yarn I could make MYSELF, just like that.

I now spin on a Schacht LadyBug, and have added Dyeing into the mix. With some help from my still crafty mom, who now does beading, I have also ventured into the stitch markers and orifice hooks arena too.
