the reason i decided to do a hybrid style is really because functionally it works fantastic!  the outer knit doesn't immediately get wet so if you did want to put a pair of pants over you don't have to worry about them getting damp....is this the most waterproof option..no...  but its still very breathable and under wool is a fantastic option because you can reuse the same pair of wool pants all day without having to change them every time they get wet from a regular fitted.
