Here's a few questions I've been asked along the way that I wanted to share with you in hopes that it might answer any questions you might have as well... if not, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to answer them!
What the heck are dryer balls and what do they do!?!?
Dryer balls are just a natural alternative to dryer sheets. They do the exact same job... they fluff your clothes, remove static, and they can even add smell good to your laundry but they have huge differences. Dryer balls have no chemicals, they are re-usable, they are cloth diaper safe, and best of all they are eco-friendly. The only ingredient in a wool dryer ball is wool. If you want them to smell good then they will contain essential oil and some offer dyed wool... but beyond that there is nothing else on the ingredient list.
Dryer sheets can contain toxic chemicals! Ewwwwwww... what's even worse is that since your clothes become coated in it, its essentially being absorbed into your skin all day long.
How do they work? Are they worth it?
Faster drying time: The hardness of the ball softens the clothes as it bounces around, this also allows for more air flow to your clothes as it tumbles your clothes in the dryer. Since wool holds 30% of its own weight in moisture, the balls not only allow for more airflow The texture of the outside of the ball removes static static from your clothes. And, since wool can hold 30% of its own weight in moisture, your ball helps absorb some extra water too.
Money saver: Since your clothes dry faster with some balls in there, you'll save money on electricity! Aweosme!
Softens your clothes and reduces wrinkles: Those tumbling balls do more than just bounce around in there! The tumbling around creates more airflow and softens and reduces all at the same time!
Great for people with allergies: My balls are made of all natural 100% wool roving and our scents are all 100% essential oils, there's no artificial scents or material used in my product and I make them all here in my home. NO Chemicals here!
Re-Usable: Just leave them in your dryer and use over and over and over... I've heard of some people using their balls for up to 10 years! How long they last does depend on how often you wash, your machine, and many other variables and there is just no way for me to tell you how long yours will last.
Cloth diaper friendly: Since these are made with all natural fibers... use these with your cloth diapers and feel secure! These cant hurt them, I use them with all our diapers!
What made you decide to make and sell your dryer balls?
I really wanted some option for fabric softener for my cloth diapers so I set out to make a ball that would be affordable, long lasting, and made from quality supplies which is how Wholly Sheep balls was started. I never realized it would turn into a business though I'm ecstatic that it has. Each ball is given my full attention and lovingly hand wrapped. My husband won't do laundry without them!
My kid balls came about by pure accident... my first few attempts at making the proper size ball were rather... well, unsuccessful LOL. However, kids found these to be the perfect play toy so I just let them have them. After thinking about it, I realized how perfect they were for kids and babies. Since they are hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial and antimicrobial, and easy to clean; they make the perfect toy. I make two different sizes since smaller hands have trouble grasping bigger heavier items.
