About Me
INTRODUCTION: There is nothing quite like creating something so individual, stitch-by-stitch, one little tiny piece at a time. The options know no boundaries, the possibilities limited only by one’s imagination. Ann Parri is the crocheting hands behind TheHappyCrocheter. From her small cottage in the sheep-filled hills of North Wales' western coast, Ann creates original crochet items and patterns in a variety of genres from traditional to cute to her original (and quirky!) food scarves.
MY CROCHET PHILOSOPHY: For me, it's not about production, it's about art and creativity in functionality. I love creating useful items, but there's no reason why function should overshadow artistry. Generally I start with an idea and a rough sketch, and as I begin to shape the piece, I find it takes on a life of its own. Here in my shop you will find quite a wide variety of styles, most of them warm, often beautiful, and all original. I don't crochet from others' patterns - I create my own from start to finish.
MY INSPIRATION: Anything I see can be an inspiration for my work! I am certainly inspired by the world of crochet itself and by my amazing fellow crocheters. but I also find inspiration in not-so-usual places. I love coffee, and I can't wait to release my new coffee-themed items. Nature, tasty food, Spanish fans, and my sweet little son have been the inspiration behind pieces I've made.
MY ORIGINAL PATTERNS: Patterns are continually being developed and tested by fellow crocheters on Ravelry, so check back often for new patterns available for sale.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN: My love of crochet began ten years ago as a young adult. It was Christmastime, and my grandmother had made a simple, but lovely, crocheted afgan. Although I had long practiced various crafts, I was fascinated by the beauty of using my hands to create something useful, and that night, I pestered her to teach me.
She taught me all she knew - the chain stitch and the single crochet stitch, and likely believed that it would be forgotten before the night was over. But I was not to be deterred. I stayed up nearly all night, and by 4am was pleased to leave a single pot holder on the kitchen counter for all to admire in the morning.
I began studying my new craft. Through books, I learned new stitches, how to change color, and how to crochet in the round. I began to decipher patterns and to create sometimes-wobbly and sometimes-lovely items that were, to my great delight, useful to me and others.
I have since learned to crochet without patterns and to write my own, and I am currently taking up knitting (I crossed over!) and relearning to sew after a few years away from my Singer.
About Me:
I am blessed to be a Christian - a believer in the Lord Jesus. He has saved me from all my sin and I am so glad that I know my wonderful God! :) My primary occupation is that of homemaker. I get to spend my days taking care of my husband and little son who turned one in October, and soon I will get to take care of a new little one, as we found out that we are expecting our second child in September. I am truly blessed!
