This is an auction for Katie Melody's daughter Veda. She was struck by a car and all money is going to help her family with medical bills and other expenses they have.

Veda Melody shows off her pretty smile despite the major pain she's enduring: a fractured pelvis, road rash and a cut face. The 14-year-old was hit by a car while crossing the street at Alexander and Pioneer.

Veda was using a crosswalk. She and her best friend were walking to Bunker Park on Thursday afternoon when a driver failed to see them, hitting and injuring Veda.

"I just froze," remembers Veda. "I didn't know what to do. Then I heard the beaks and I just blacked out."

Veda needs a lot of physical therapy but no surgery. The ninth grader knows it could have been a lot worse.

"Yeah, I really feel very lucky that I'm alive," says Veda. "I flew about 40 feet."

"She wasn't doing anything wrong, she was just walking across the street and the worst thing happened," says Katie Melody, Veda's mother. She says a phone call about the accident was one she never wanted to receive.

"We've got to get serious about keeping people safe," said Veda's father, Timothy Melody.

The Melody family contacted Action News because they're begging the community to start paying more attention on the roadways.

"There are no lights or anything, so, I don't think people really notice that it's there," said Veda.

Veda said she likely won't walk to Bunker Park any more.

She said right now the physical pain is the hardest part.

"Emotionally, I'm doing okay," she says.

A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metro Police Department told Action News the driver was not impaired, distracted or speeding. However, the driver was cited.

Veda will undergo physical therapy. Her parents say the doctors expect her to recover in about six weeks.
