Superwash merino wool, hand-dyed oranges loosely blended with commercially-dyed black to create a unique, very textured yarn. There are usually a few neps in this batt colorway, which is to give the yarn a somewhat lumpy bumpy look, even when spun evenly, to mimic the outside of most gourds and especially pumpkins. The image in my mind with this batt is a Jack'o'lantern on Halloween night. Great art yarn batt, especially for those spinners who typically have trouble spinning anything but even yarn.

I spun up a skein of yarn using a Jack'O'Lantern batt and sent it in to the 2009 New York Sheep and Wool Festival handspun contest, and it took fourth place in its category. A picture of the yarn can be seen in the listing, to give you an idea of the color and texture possibilities available from these batts. So you, too, could spin an award-winning yarn from this fiber.

All attempts were made to keep the colors correct when photographing this batt, however, the black doesn't always come through as a true black. Rest assured, it is a nice deep black, not brownish or washed out.

Comes from a smoke- and perfume-free environment,; we are dog-friendly but make all attempts to keep his hairs out of the product.
