I fell in love with spinning during my freshman year in college (1978...i know, some of you weren't even born yet then, lol) I was studying art eductation and couldn't get into a drawing class i needed, so got bumped into a fiber design class. It stole my heart and i never looked back. I have a background in spinning, dying, weaving, papermaking and other fiber arts, but spinning is my long time best friend. It's grounding and nurturing, and loves me unconditionally, lol. I have worked with a variety of fibers over the years, and have been very excited to expermiment with some of the newer fibers that are now available....bamboo, soy, etc. I fell in love with BFL 7 or 8 years ago, and it has been my primary sheep's wool since then. I love angora, silk and have worked a lot with dog fur and a few other exotic fibers. I recently came into possession of about 75 lbs of raw alpaca from a local family farm, so you will likely see me listing a LOT of alpaca yarns in the near future. ;-)I have worked with various dyes over the years....natural dyes, fiber reactive dyes, union dyes and acid dyes. For animal fibers I prefer the versatility of professional quality acid dyes, so that is what I will be using to dye yarns listed here. ******My first experimental batches of soap were made in the summer of 1982. The instructions were sketchy, the ingredients were less than ideal, and the resulting soap wasn't very impressive. I was so infatuated with the idea of handmade soap, however, that I plunged forward. Over the years I continued to experiment, and as better quality ingredients became more readily available i was able to formulate a recipe with which i was truly happy. I have also studied medicinal herbology and aromatherapy with a variety of teachers.I spent many years selling my soap at craft fairs, and eventually, online. Now, after a break of several years (sometimes life has a mind of its own) I've been hearing the soap call my name again, lol. The soap faeries have been planting seeds, and soap is once again growing in the garden.Fantasia's Garden Botanicals is a family owned and operated business. I've been the driving force since the beginning, but am now receiving help from my teenage stepdaughter. She is a valuable resource. :-)
