Transmutation: "Monarch"

Medium serving bowl, approximately 10 inches across and 3 inches high, is decorated with a Monarch butterfly and caterpillar in the cuerda seca technique.

Butterflies are a traditional symbol of change, metamorphosis and transformation.

Cuerda Seca is a method of glazing using wax resist. The designs are created by drawing thin outlines in a black pigmented wax. The spaces are then filled with a pool of glaze from a syringe. When fired, the wax burns off, leaving a recessed black line, and the glaze forms glassy mounds of color.

My stoneware is all handcrafted, either thrown on a wheel or handbuilt of food safe, lead free materials. It is fired to about 2200 degrees which makes it dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. It is durable and built to last. Please enjoy using your pottery every day!
