Is it just me, or is interest in woolies WAAAAAY down from what it used to be? I remember when woolies were all people talked about, and inventory would really move. Now, I see gorgeous woolies for very reasonable prices that sit and sit and sit. Did everyone suddenly take up knitting/crocheting, or did I miss something?

I think people like buying yarn now, so finished items aren't wanted as much. It's so sad though! There are lots of gorgeous woollies on HC that are adorable! I just can't justify buying them and yarn lol

Sometimes it baffles me what sells and what doesn't. I know for sure people love having customs made, they feel more involved in the process and get exactly what they want for about the same cost.

I think the supply and demand are just off balance now, used to be really good knits/crocheted woolies were hard to come by, same with sought after yarns for said woolies, now there are a lot of both and just not as much demand...i do think a lot of people prefer to source their own yarn and find their own creators too and that way they get exactly what they want in both yarn and sizing/style.

Yeah, I have no problems getting custom orders. But anytime I decide to make something and THEN sell it, um... Yeah. And the gorgeous stuff I see just "laying around" in people's shops surprises me, too.

There has definitely been a big change in buyers getting in-stock woolies or getting YYMN slots and having their yarn worked up.

I have put woolies in my cart that I sure thought were cute, and they sit for.ever! I also have YYMN slots that would allow people to send me their yarn and get customs done, but those sit, unpurchased, too. Sad

my observation is that there is still a TON of wahm yarn being sold. but there are a lot more wahms selling yarn. and there are a lot more folks doing their own knitting, crocheting and spinning than there were here several years ago.

but i'll agree that the trend seems to have moved toward people wanting to source their own yarn and have it knit to their specifications.

I agree and it is always when I am feeling creative I make my best stuff. I don't mind customs but it doesn't get my creative juices flowing.

I find it is hardly worth it to make things up and stock a shop with all ready to ship stuff. Even when I make a very highly purchased item and put it on hc it seems like it sits for a long time while I end up selling at least 1 just in a different size on etsy! I like it when people send me yarn to knit because then I don't have to buy a colorway myself just because I want to see what it looks like knit! Haha

I agree interest or even knowledge about woolies is down. My own baby is three years old now, but when we first starting using wool about 6 years ago it was all the rage.

I miss him wearing longies...I might have to knit him a pair now. lol

Ahh yes, I love being creative! I've been blessed with a few customs that gave me a little room for creativity but it doesn't happen often. My favorite thing to do is just open the yarn closet and grab whatever catches my eye and randomly start making something.

For me, since I learned how to knit, it's hard to justify spending the extra money to have someone else knit it for me. I have done it, though, when I'm in a time crunch and won't have time to knit everything I want made. I have very specific colorways I like (and most of them I own and need to knit) so I have a hard time with in stock items. I also have a hard time with in stock items because of sizing. I've seen only a handful of items this season that would fit DS (almost 2 but wears 12-18 month size pants). His inseam is a bit shorter than normal too I think.

As far as woolies for over diapers, I wonder if there's a move toward easy to use PUL covers and PUL diapers instead of wool? I loved my wool but it was more of a "special occasion" thing; for everyday I used PUL.
