Hi!
We are going to be up in the Powell River in B.C. area within the week, possibly thinking of relocating there from the U.S. Anyone reading this from around that area or know it pretty well? What is it like up there? I mean weather wise, socially, things to do for kids, etc.
Thank you for any help. It may not even happen, but I hear it is beautiful up there, and well, my husband is having a hard time finding another teaching job in the States, and he is a dual citizen. We are exploring our options at this point.
Thanks! _________________ Carmela ~ mama to Artemisia, identical twins Inara and Cordelia, and our angel baby Persephone.

I'm not much help, as I haven't been there for over 20 years, but I did live there once while in elementary school. It was a nice place, and fairly family orientated from what I remember. I went to Grief Point Elementary - at that point it was the nicer side of town, but I don't know what it is like now. There are plenty of things to do if you like the outdoors. I'm sure it still has a fairly small town feel to it. I think people generally make the occasional trip over to Comox to hit the regular shopping and Costco, and maybe the lower mainland and Vancouver area once or twice a year if they want the big city stuff (I'm over in the lower mainland now).
They only thing that is a possibly negative is that you are limited to where you go without having to take the ferry. They run a few time per day, but it is not a high traffic area, so planning is a must. I remember as a child that the best ferry rides were when they put the barf bags out as it was sure to be a bumpy ride _________________ Janet, wife to high school sweetheart Jason and mama to ds Corbin (12.29.08) and dd Rory (12.02.11)

I am!!!
We've lived here for 8 years now and I love it - I'll never move. We came from the city and this is the place to be!
There are so many hiking, canoeing, camping, kayaking opportunities that we'll never do them all.
Weather - it's typical BC Coast weather though less snow. I'd say that it snows here 3 days a year and maybe sticks for only one or 2. It's rainy through November-March, but our summers are very pleasant and we get one overly hot week.
There's a ton here for kids to do for activities. My daughter is in Grade 1 French Immersion.
The ferries are a bummer if you're planning on travelling alot. I have to for work, and for a car to hte Island or Vancouver you're looking at $120 a trip. To visit the Sunshine Coast it's half that.
Most people do a few shopping trips a year to Costco to stock up
