While showering this morning I was thinking that it would be so fun to do a Christmas swap to start getting ready for presents this year. I was thinking of one like the pampering swap, but instead listing a Christmas wishlist for people you have to buy for. You could pick from the offers people listed and then that person could post their list. We could do it as long as it people were interested.
Is anyone interested? It doesn't matter when it would start, but I was thinking that the sooner the better as we all get super busy once Christmas actually gets closer. I love having shopping done early too _________________ Katie ~ wife to JD. mama to 3 amazing kiddos!

Remind me how the pampering swap works...is that when the person who is "up" lists what they are looking for and then people make offers of what they will provide them on their list. The person who is "up" then choses from those offers. The person whose offer is chosen then becomes the person who is "up".

Excellent! I'm in for sure.
The list I just posted on the pampering swap last night, is mostly stuff from my Christmas list. I guess we were thinking along the same lines. |

Sorry. I was gone last night and couldn't answer. Yes, that's what I was thinking. That way you'd know what you were getting. _________________ Katie ~ wife to JD. mama to 3 amazing kiddos!

I'm glad there's interest! When would be a good time to start? Now? When the kiddlets are in school? _________________ Katie ~ wife to JD. mama to 3 amazing kiddos!

In my case, since I may have to make something, and considering what my customs schedule is usually like, the more time to get something finished for a deadline like that, the better. My vote is to start now. _________________ ~Mary, Mom to N, grandma to R (10/08), E (4/11)

I am good to start whenever, but sooner is probably better for me. Things get a bit busy for the first few weeks of school. |

Unfortunately we can't have more than one of those types of swaps happening at the same time.
Also because this is such a different type of swap as in the host has to close it out and it could happen many months down the line, I haven't let other people host them in the past (other than the ongoing wish swap which was a quick turn around). Too many things can happen and while the host is able and willing now, will they be able to later, and will they be able to make an offer to close it out.
It also requires a lot of moderating by a moderator to keep it running and bumped.
I'm not saying that nobody else can host one. You would just need to make a compelling argument that you can do it, come up with a plan of exactly how it would be run, and promise that you are willing to do what it takes to make sure you claim the last person and close it out.
So our options are either
a. use the pampering swap for it. You can ask for whatever you want in there, so why do we need another one? What would make this one any different than what we have? I can change the name of it to gift swap if you would like.
b. when I am chosen in the pampering swap, I will close it and a Christmas one can be opened. If that is what you want to do I will make every effort to be chosen asap. _________________ Becky's Paper Creations hc

Hmm... I can definitely see why you are cautious to have just anyone run one of these. It could definitely end poorly if someone just upped and left without closing it out. I hadn't even thought of that as I of course wouldn't do that, but I can see why you've set up those guidelines.
I was thinking that the Christmas Swap could be more crafting and perhaps used things than buying things for one another. It seems like the pampering swap is more focused on buying things or offering something that you have already bought. That was the difference in my head, but I don't think I explained that exactly. I'm completely fine with not doing it and just waiting to do another craft swap again. My thinking was that this could be ongoing so that you didn't have a huge list of things to accomplish in one swap, kwim? Anyway, I'm fine with just not doing it. I don't want to cause more work for you at all! I can just post a Christmas list if I get chosen for the pampering swap again

I think Katie would be an excellent host for this, and I def. feel like there is room on here for more than one on-going swap, especially one that is specific in nature, as this one is.... Plus, it's not really never ending, since Christmas will arrive eventually.... _________________ Heather, Wife to John, Mommie to Daisy, Lily, Iris, Pilut and Utah.

The pampering one is often handmade items.
I am more than happy closing it out and letting you host a Christmas one, if you come to me with the guidelines I stated.
I still don't see how it will be any different though, but maybe I will when you send me your guidelines. _________________ Becky's Paper Creations hc

I don't want you to have to close the pampering one. That one is fun and it seems to really help people who need a little pick me up. I think we can just put our Christmas wishes if we get chosen for that one and not have to switch it out. Or maybe Erin can host an ongoing wish swap sometime in the next few months and we can post our Christmas lists then. Thank you for talking this out though, Becky! I really appreciate your willingness!!!
