Yeah, I was quite frustrated to see the increase. When I signed up for streaming and upgraded to include Blu-Ray, I reduced my DVD plan from 3 at a time to 1 at a time, which reduced my monthly payment a bit. Like Brenda (I think you were the one who said it), I want both streaming and DVDs since not all movies/shows are available via streaming.
When I get a disc, I watch it that night (usually) and then return it the next day, and stream on the nights I wait for a new disc, so I do get my money's worth for the DVD portion of my plan.
As it stands, I'll be paying about $5 extra/month, including the taxes. _________________ ~Mary, Mom to N, grandma to R (10/08), E (4/11)

I think this is in part to make their big push away from DVDs. They said they always intended to be a company where you watch it all online. So, I imagine it's in part to see how many people really want the DVD feature too. Netflix will own (have available) less and less DVDs as more and more people go to streaming. Hopefully, one day they will make some of the new DVD releases available to the streaming the same day as it releases to DVD. The price will increase dramatically if they have this feature, but my guess is they hope to go all online streaming eventually. Could you imagine a library that big of new releases and everything else too? I am sure it will be $30 a month, but considering you will never rent a movie anywhere again, it's pretty cool. _________________ Erin

We only use streaming. We enjoy it so will be keeping it for now. I'm not really happy about the hike though. _________________ Scentsory Creations ~stocking etsy only and customs only as I can~

Admittedly, we use primarily the streaming. And often have movies for ages before we get to watch them. We could probably do just the streaming and then just use redbox when we actually want a dvd.
I'll have to see what dh wants to do. |
This is us exactly....We are just doing the streaming!

We use mainly the streaming. I think we'll probably just go down to the streaming and Redbox any other movies we want to watch. We are also guilty of letting a movie sit there forever before we watch it and send it back. I do think it's a little much of them to be raising prices that much for the same service. _________________ Jenny

This is us too. In some ways I think this rate hike will help redbox. We will drop the 1 movie a month, just do streaming, and rent at redbox occasionally. _________________ Erin

hulu (or hulu plus) is great for current network TV shows. They do have some older stuff, but much of it is newer shows. hulu plus allows you to access everything they have for $8/mo and the regular hulu allows you to watch just the most current episodes for free.
I really like hulu. We used to have directv, but as soon as we got high speed internet this spring, we ditched the directv in favor of hulu plus.
We've had netflix forever and when we got high speed internet, we went down to 2 dvds at a time and started streaming. I've been very disappointed with the stuff available for streaming. Especially now that my kids are older (if you have little kids, it is great for kid shows). We don't watch much older tv - but I do like all the documentaries that are available.
I'm thinking we will ditch our DVD plan and keep netflix streaming (mostly for documentaries - good for homeschooling) and our hulu plus. I'm currently working on getting a computer dedicated to the TV - this will let us stream more stuff from hulu (some things are only available for streaming via the web and not through our roku box) and I can download movies to watch or use the redbox.
I also have amazon prime (6.60/mo if you break it down) - but haven't really streamed any of their movies yet. I got prime for the shipping, streaming videos is just a perk.
I would really like to see new movie releases available for streaming from netflix/amazon - but that is up to the movie companies to change how they contract stuff. _________________ Melinda

Not happy at all about this. We use streaming more than anything so IF we keep Netflix at all we will go down to just it and not do regular dvd's at all.
I just use regular Hulu quite a bit and I find myself watching it more than Netflix anyway so I may just switch over to Hulu Plus and be done with Netflix purely out of principle. A rate increase...expected..but DOUBLING the rate is a bunch of crap IMO. _________________ ~Nikki
