|
|
This weekend started on Thursday. DS1's birthday is actually today, but he got his birthday present on Thursday. He couldn't decide what he wanted for a long time and I didn't want more plastic and worthless toys in the house. So, Grandma, great-grandparents, and Ben and I all went in together and got him 2 parakeets (and all the stuff to go with it). He's ecstatic and loves them. He was so surprised when we went and told him to pick out which ones he wanted. He thought we were just going to look at them, not actually get them.
Then Friday, DH and my grandpa brought the utility trailer over to our house so we could start making it into a chicken coop. We had the intention to get the chicks over the weekend, but in a little bit you'll see why we didn't. The roof was rotted, so we needed to pull it off and put new plywood on. So while I'm outside helping DH get the rusted bolts out, I fell off the step-ladder. It hurt and I thought I twisted my ankle, but I was able to get up and didn't seem to have much problem at all. Just a big nasty bruise on my left forearm. I felt lucky to not have it worse.
Then that evening, I was trying to get DD3 (21 months) to sleep and she was just super fidgety and restless. DH said she was just pushing my buttons and he tried with her. He got frustrated and I teased him back and took a turn with her again. This time, I noticed more what she was doing and got worried. I told DH this and he decides to tell me that she may have gotten one of DS1's ADHD pills. He hadn't told me before because DS1 "thought" he'd gotten them all away from her. So after calling poison control, we take the other 4 to Grandma's and take DD3 to the ER. It's so obvious, they don't even take blood, but there's not much they can do, so they admit her for observation to make sure her blood pressure and heart rate don't get too high and that they come back down to normal. Of course, since she wasn't sleeping, that meant DH and I had to stay up with her, taking shifts of an hour or two sleeping. They released her Saturday morning around 10 since her vitals were back to normal. She was still fidgety and not quite normal, but her vitals were back to normal so there wasn't any point to staying. Later she started throwing up and the doc tried to call in a scrip for us, but wasn't allowed to because stupid parents had used it incorrectly so it was illegal to give it to small children. Anyway, he did tell us we could try some benadryl to help her get to sleep and that since the medicine was designed to last between 9 and 15 hours on our son, it could take a couple days to fully wear off. She finally goes to sleep Saturday night and was up at 4 but DH got her back to sleep about an hour later. Sunday morning she seems mostly fine.
Well, she hadn't eaten anything solid (just drunk lots of juice) since Friday night so I decided to make her favorite breakfast, hoping it would tempt her to eat. It didn't, but she did eat later. Anyway, while I'm making breakfast, I notice it's starting to really hurt when I bend and move and I can't sit comfortably. I figure it's just delayed effect from the fall. I finally agree to take one of the pills I keep on hand for my migraines as it also has regular pain killers in it. I go to sleep for about 4 hours. Still feel kinda cruddy but figure I just need some rest.
Well, Sunday night, I can hardly move while I sleep. It hurts to turn over or adjust in my sleep and Monday morning, I feel even worse. I can hardly move at all and finally decide to try to go to the doctor. BUT, my doctor can't see me until at least Wednesday. I call the nurse line at my insurance to see if it's bad enough I should go to the ER. She tells me I need to be seen by the next day so try urgent care or if needed the ER. Go to urgent care and they got me in really quickly. Decide to take x-rays (don't have the results yet). Depending on how that comes out and how I respond to treatment, they'll decide if I need an MRI. But, he gave me a shot of Toradol (non-narcotic NSAID, but for when you need opiate level pain management) and a scrip for some pain meds. I'm feeling human again, but still hurting. I still have to be very careful how I move, but at least I can move better than I could on Monday. I hope it's not a fracture, but I think I'd rather that (assuming it isn't just muscle strain which would be the best option) than a bulging disc or something.
So I haven't been at the computer more than a few minutes in probably 3 days and the chicken coop isn't done. But, my dad is arriving for a visit on Thursday so maybe DH can get him to help. Poor DH listening to my dad tell him how everything needs to be done. I hope I feel enough better to get some planting and transplanting done within a day or two. I'll miss getting to plant some of the cooler weather vegetables if they don't get done soon. Well, at least we'll have to wait until the fall planting.
Sorry so long. Thanks for reading if you got this far. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.

Thanks!
To top it all off: We just got a call from the preschool and DD2 and DS2 have lice. I have no idea where they got it from and I am beyond mortified. I so do not feel well enough for all this laundry.
Any ideas? We'll be putting stuffed animals in plastic trash-bags to suffocate, but I don't know what to do about the beds themselves or the carpet.
I guess I should consider myself fortunate that we've only had scares before where they've found it at the school but my kids have never actually had them until now. Uuuuuugggggghhhhhh! _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.

I bet they got it AT preschool. I had lice all the time when i was a kid, but my brothers never got it. They liked my hair for some reason. I remember all the bags of pillows and stuffies ont he front lawn. You probably could wrap the matresses in plastic and put them outside. The sun on a dark color plastic will heat up too much for them to withstand.
Maybe a call into your visting teachers is warranted. I am sure they would love to help you with all of this. It is not like it can wait until you feel better.
No reason to be mortified, the Lice like clean hair, and obviously your kids are clean if they have lice. and it is not like you were not paying attention. My mom NEVEr knew when i had it. ( about twice a year until 2nd grade)
I hope this resolves quickly.
Oh I just thought that i think i read Tea Tree Oil will kill them, i wonder if you sprayed the matress and carpet with TTO in a bottle would be enough to kill them?? not saturate. Or maybe shampoo your carpet and use attachement to do matresses, and add TTO to the mixture.
Good Luck! _________________ Melissa Mom with 11 kiddos. 4 who run on Earth, 7 who soar with the angels.

Well, I just read that it takes about 10 days for eggs to hatch so chances are, they did get them at school. Ugh!
I'm glad we got a carpet cleaner when the kids started potty training. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.

But the good news is:
DH just got a call from the new job. His background check and drug test all went through without any problems just like we expected so he starts on Saturday. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.

What an eventful weekend! At least DH starting a new job next weekend is good news in the midst of craziness.

Kristina, that's totally insane!! I hope that you're feeling better soon, the lice craziness is under control, and your DH has a great first day at work! I agree with Melissa that you should call your VTs. If nothing else, I'm sure they'd be happy to bring dinner over for you guys. _________________ Kari

Well, the school sent home a lice "mousse" so we didn't have to buy any and everyone except me has had a treatment. The TV room has been vaccuumed and steam cleaned. The beds have been stripped and stuffed animals have been put in plastic trash bags and sealed up. My back is holding up reasonably well considering.
I'll try to call my VTers. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.

Well, I went back to the doctor yesterday to get the results from the x-rays. Good news is: I didn't fracture my spine. Just have to rest it as much as possible. He did give me a prescription for muscle relaxers to go with the pain pills and mentioned possibly using aspiring instead of the ibuprofen. I decided to try it and the aspirin seems to work a lot better.
I've been trying to rest, but with having to clean the house and treat the kids for the lice problem that didn't happen on Tuesday. Yesterday I had to take DD2 to a psychologist appointment an hour away as a consult for disability determination. It was either drive (and therefore sit) for an hour each way and sit in the office or be at home but probably have to fight and lift DD3 and/or DS2 so DH and I decided it was better for me to go with DD2. Turned out okay.
Doing much better today. Not sure if it's the aspirin, the muscle relaxers, or it's just significantly better today than yesterday. I'm just grateful. The scrips he gave me were enough for 2 weeks so I asked if I was supposed to see him again then or if he was thinking it should be better by then. He thought it would hopefully be better by then, but if I still needed more meds, I could just call. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.
