Actually went pretty well and the kids are really happy about it.
I know it's summer, but DH and I decided to try to start now. Then if it just wasn't working, the kids wouldn't be behind if we had to put them back in public school. And, if it continues to work, then we'll have days built up that we can take off during the school year.
DS1 has wanted to homeschool but grumbled a bit at first that we were starting in the summer, but as we did it, and finished, he was really happy about everything.
I was worried that we didn't finish until about 4, but then realized we started late because we let the kids sleep in (it is summer, after all), and that included time doing some chores, lunch and about an hour of recess. Not to mention that we're completely new at this so we're not completely efficient.
We haven't added science or music or art in yet (but we did start with a foreign language today), but I figure once we get a system working for us, it won't actually be any more time than now while we're still figuring things out.
And, amazingly, I got so much done myself around the house. Not sure how that happened.
Sorry for the long post, but I've been really worried about if we could do this and I'm feeling a bit more confident now. Let's hope this keeps up. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.

Great job! The first year is the toughest, so if you can make it to the end of the first year things will run smoother from then on. _________________ Sandy Homeschooling Mom to 5 great kids

Thanks!
I have a kindergartener, a 4th grader, and a 5th grader.
I also have a 3 year old and a 10 month old, but their nap times cooperated with school today. Not sure if that will be a regular occurrence or not. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.

Sounds like you had a great day! I can't wait to start homeschooling, but my girls are just not ready for anything too structured, so I just try to teach them and quiz them while we play. _________________ Jessica~WAHM to Julianne 5-19-07, Jocelyn 8-10-08 & our new sweet baby Jacqueline 12-30-10

Well, today is going to be a really light day since we had a doctor's appointment this morning. We're going to start after lunch. Hopefully today is as good as yesterday. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.
