Ok, the weirdest thing just happened to me. I was sitting and watching TV and all of the sudden I noticed that there were sort of bright spots in my vision, like I had looked at the sun too long, I thought it was because the window was open, so I closed it, but then it evolved to a sort of rainbow of lights across my right eye, and a sort of encroaching blackness in my peripheral vision along with blurred vision. It lasted for about 15 minutes. I called my husband, agreed we would wait an hour and see what to do (he is in OKC, I'm all alone).
So it seems to be gone now for the most part, and I have a routine appointment tomorrow where I will mention it, but has this happened to anyone else? I'm not hypertensive, in fact I have very low blood pressure, and the baby seems to be active as normal. I'm afraid of this happening again while Im driving, should I be really worried? _________________ Organic Teethers & Waldorf Toys!

That happened to me with both pregnancies. I had high blood pressure and was medicated for that during both. The "spots" for me would usually start in the corners of my eyes. At first I thought I had imagined it but then they would be everywhere.
I suppose it could also happen with low blood pressure. It's good you have a routine appointment tomorrow anyway, so you can get it figured out and not have to wait. I would definitely be cautious about driving until then. _________________

If it's what I think it is, it's a 'classic' migraine. Classic migraines are not painful, and just involve vision changes. Spots and tunnel vision are my symptoms. both usually go away quickly within a minute or so, but I get them when i've been very stressed, or when I've been worried or sometimes for no known reason at all.
i hope that's all it is for you! _________________ Under the Hill Crafts

I got it twice when I was pregnant, exactly as you described, but both times it happened after I had a particularly bad cough or sneeze. I've had it happen once since I was pregnant as well. I also have low blood pressure. _________________ Amanda, Mom to Tyler (12/05), Wife to DH Marc (7/05)

I get it when I'm about to get a migraine (like PP said) OR when I haven't eaten enough and have low blood sugar. I'd try eating something and drinking some water and see how you feel. :-) _________________ Sue, Mom to Abbie (8), Andy (6), Ava (5), and Audrey (2)

Just got back from the doc, she and I agree it was a cluster migraine most likely -- the blinding pain behind my eyeball 30 minutes after the visual stuff clued me into the headache thing, but its so strange that the visual thing happened with no pain at all. I think its stress induced, because Ive never had migraines before this pregnancy. I think I DO need to relax!

It could be stress, but it could also be a food allergy, so it might be a good idea to keep a food journal for a little while and see if anything shows up. My two food allergies didn't present until I was 15 and 24. _________________ Kari

When I get migraines, all my "aura" symptoms are gone by the time the headache actually starts. I don't get the rainbow, but I lose peripheral vision, have dark spots in the middle (so if I'm reading, I'll see the ends of a word, but not the middle), and varying degrees of numbness on one side of my body. The headache hits about 20-30 minutes after the symptoms have subsided. The severity of the numbness tells me how bad it's going to be and the side affected tells me where the headache will hit since it's always the opposite. I have had 1 or 2 occasions where I had the aura and the headache never hit.
Usually, as soon as I notice the aura, I drink a coke (or some other caffeinated beverage), take a tylenol and lay down if possible. If it's the symptoms tell me it's going to be a doozy, then I'll actually take the fioricet the doc prescribed. I feel fortunate that I've only used 2 or 3 in the year since I got them. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.

I totally tried to book a spa day at Zenana in Portland the day they left but they didnt have anything and it was memorial day weekend so I couldnt get a pet sitter for the animals anyway to stay overnight . Then I called the spa in Astoria and it said their number was disconnected, and after that I just gave up!
But I did go shopping today and had a long talk with my OB who went with me to tour the hospital because I was afraid to go back there and she and the nurses were really sweet to me -- it made me feel better. Honestly I was so out of it when I was there I didnt even really remember it properly so it wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be and now I think I'm ready to go for the c-section on the 20th (July, that is) and not freak out about being there... _________________ Organic Teethers & Waldorf Toys!

That's so interesting to hear, since I've never had migraines I had no idea that could happen, I guess I need to start reading up. I thought I was losing my eyesight! I even called the on-call doctor last night (who happened to be my OB anyway) because I was afraid it was a sign of spiking blood pressure (which it wasnt, because my blood pressure today was just fine, very low as usual).
