If your child only had 10 open ended toys. What would they be?
I am desperately trying to downsize toys *STILL* and so now, I think 10 toys each is good, open ended of course which should provide lots of play. The only issue is trying to decide which ones. Of course, with all of the gifts they recieve etc. I will put those in a box and bring them out once in awhile.
the top ten will be perminent, in their rooms and some in the living room.
who wants to spend over half hour picking up toys at the end of each day? not me LOL _________________ erica.loving my kidos.K{july.11.07}.T{june.21.09}.and L{december.17.11} |

i wouldn't limit to ten toys although i do like simplicity and they don't have many things that are ONLY theirs and that they do not share with the other 3 boys.
I would have:
legos
musical instruments
a play kitchen with play foods (but i am biased lol)
a wooden train set with wooden trucks and cars
board games and puzzles
plenty of arts and craft supplies as well as journals and writing instruments
playmobil sets with different themes
sand toys
outdoor toys such as balls and hula hoops
when they are little waldorf dolls
bean bags (we still love our whiffy bean bag collection)
we still love our memory game tiles painted by beneath the rowan tree _________________ Tiffany, homeschooling mom to 4 great boys: isaiah(3-98 ); aidan(4-00); ephraim(10-02); asher(1-05) ; nak from 1998-2008

That depends on the child. Every child is so different.
I had toys for Maren that never got played with until Stiles came around. Stiles never wanted to use most of Maren's favorites.
Playsilks (that is the one toy that both kids played with and still play with)
Stiles only cares about legos, cars, playsilks and wool food.
Maren has never played a lot with toys. _________________ Becky's Paper Creations hc

Like others have said that would be tough to do for each child, but considering the age of your kids.....
Playsilks
wood kitchen with food
puzzles (my 3yo adores them)
wooden animals
wooden doll house with furniture
doll with clothes
definitely books
I think that would about do it for a 3yo. Kids that age can definitely get overwhelmed by too many options. _________________ ~Erica~

That would be pretty easy for my family.
My oldest has only really ever been interested in legos, bionicles and robots.
Daughter not a big toy person: her 4 dolls and barbies
Youngest son is the one that loves toys:
Legos, Bionicles, Thomas the train toys, cars, blocks
The one thing they have always loved to play with is their Dress-ups and costumes. Their dress-up items consume almost a closet. _________________ http://hyenacart.com/plaidpineapple/

- legos/duplos
- blocks of some type
- toy train/cars/vehicles
- little people stuff
- dress up stuff
- toy kitchen stuff
- craft stuff
- toy animal/dinosaur stuff
And books. Lots & lots of books. _________________ Melinda

Cash is right between your kids in age, and we can't live without
train set
puzzles
Leapfrog Letters (the one on the fridge, I'm about to get him the one that holds 3 letters at a time)
dress up clothes for sure
a fishing pole
and sorry to say, my boy is a complete techy. He loves his dad's ipod, the wii and apps on my phone and can use them all himself. It's creepy, but he does it! _________________ Mommy to Cash 4-4-08, Wife to Jacob 8-19-06

The indoor trampoline is my number 1 thing. It burns so much energy and has been used as a fort and a place to watch movies on the ipad.
Other than that, trains. That is all we would need here other than electronics. _________________ Mimi, mom to Sky (12/24/08) & Olivia (7/3/12)

We can't get by without:
Legos
Blocks
Puzzles
TONS of books
Dolls/stuffed animals for Audrey
play phone/cell phone
Magna Doodle
Letters for the fridge
Cars.
Weebles and their treehouse. This gets used much more than I ever thought it would in our house. Weebles have been used as bowling pins. Lined up and counted. Colors named. used in the treehouse as intended, and also thrown across the room (Not okay, but it's been done.)
Balls.
Good luck! _________________ Under the Hill Crafts

At just turned 4, these are Finn's top 10. Not all completely open ended, but battery free & mostly not plastic
Duplo
Playmobil
Play Stands
Play Silks
Train Set (and table)
Tools (all toy/kid, some wood, some plastic)
Balls (wool crochet ones, wooden ones, felted ones, some plastic, big, small ...)
Old laptop & cellphone. These are HIS, and he 'works' just like Daddy on them, and calls 'customers' to sell them GPS just like Daddy. They are retired ones that we don't use, and ahve no power or batteries.
Wooden Blocks
Animals - wooden, stuffed, mostly small enough to be part of Duplo creations, get tossed/parachuted with the silks, or ride on the trains.
Play food
Plus books & craft stuff, but I don't consider those toys
Aside from the Playmobil which is mostly new from his birthday, he's used these toys at least since 18mths, in phases, but all of it most of the time. _________________ Rochelle ~ Finn & Cate's Mama

thanks for all of the ideas. so far I have gotten rid of all battery types except for the newest gifts from relatives..I would feel to guilty donating those right away!
I have kept:
-hotwheels, both kids love them EXCEPT. They have over 100 so I am knocking that down to 10-20 I am thinking.
-a couple large trucks
-dollies, stroller, doll bed.
-play silks, twirligs etc. I am going to order a play stand since they can be so many things
-we have lots of puzzles which we love
-we dont have the room for our play kitchen so its stored away but, the pots pans etc. are in a basket to be played with on a pretend stove
-duplo
-playmobil
-plan pirate ship
-blocks
-thomas train set
-balls.
-a ball tent, which comes out when they want it.
-tools
-DD has her schleich horse collection. DS has a couple too. mommy rides horses so these are one of their faves
a doll house will be good when DD is a little older. DS would probably like it too.
this is beween them both. now that I have cleared out the toys they just chuck around..they are actually playing. its great!
we also go to the indoor playground here when it is chilly and there are tons of different toys so they definitly get variety in their play. _________________ erica.loving my kidos.K{july.11.07}.T{june.21.09}.and L{december.17.11} |
