I have a fabulous pair of wide leg pants, I got them from Etsy, ages and ages ago and I want more. The hemp fabric has held out longer than any pair of jeans I've had, was light enough for summer, ok for winter and they fitted so nicely. They're now on their last legs ( lol ). Unfortunately the seller's c/s wasn't that great and I'm not really happy to go back. I thought I'd ask on here if anyone sews women's pants with hemp??

I have a supplier that offers soy, hemp, beech, bamboo, and organic cotton.
So short answer is I do not have it on hand but yes, I can get it. :D

I have almost offered hemp several times but had heard that most people have a negative image of it and I probably could not make my money back on what it costs for the fabric so I just kinda put it on the back burner. I really like hemp fabric though....glad I found someone else that does too!LOL!

I will admit though, that I do not do jean like pants, sorry! I *can* but I loathe it and the time it takes to do them would make me have to charge A LOT for them. But if you are talking about drawstring or elastic that would work.

Beech fabric? Very intriguing.

And I can see how some might view hemp fabric in a negative light. We used to have a store that sold hemp clothing near here.

Infinite cosmos hemp on Etsy. Marlena used to sew clothing but not positive if she just sells fabric or if she still sews.

Woohooo! Great to hear Nikki. And nope, not jean style at all, I was just comparing the longevity of the fabric. These are simple drawstring, wide legged. They are hand dyed and have an applique on them and I love them a lot, but I'd be happy with plain in the right colour.

Soy we've had, beech sounds interesting though. What are the qualities of beech fabric??

I use hemp. I have some in stock (i'd have to check what exactly). I use to only use hemp when I offered a wholesale line.

Might be something I would really look into buying too. I hate buying something without an adjustable waist since I'm going from preg to not, to preg, to not... And I hate trying to find pants that fit. If it's something that would last, I'd be willing to put out some extra money for it.

A type of knit called modal is made from beech-tree and has the same basic quality as bamboo stretch knit. It is drapey, lightweight, almost like a silky cotton (does that make sense?). Basically if you have anything made from bamboo stretch knit (not velour, jersey I mean) it will feel and look exactly like that. I am not sure exactly why bamboo is viewed as the higher quality of the two because I honestly cannot tell the difference and they go through the exact same processing to make the pulp into fabric.
I just started offering both types after taking the plunge and ordering some and realizing it is just as awesome as the bamboo. :D

If there is actual interest I might order a bolt of hemp and play with it. I just did not want to invest in it and have people think...eeew hemp lol

I would totally be interested. They'd be a lot like the pants you already have listed, right Nikki? I'm really looking into something like a yoga pant with a drawstring. What would the cost be? All sellers considering offering them can feel free to respond. I personally go from about a 14 right after the baby is born (with each of my 3) down to about an 8. I am soooo tired of buying 2 pairs of each size... Even if I had to buy 2 sets, if the cost evened out, it would sooo be worth it.

That is kinda a hard call to make TBH. There are a ton of hemp varieties from stretch knit to denim. There is a very nice hemp linen that I think looks fabulous. The price on each kind varies greatly (from my source anyway)
I think I can give a safe estimate that a pair of wide leg drawstring pants would be *about*$30-35-40. It really is hard to pre-figure.
I honestly would have to get it, see the shrink factor on the prewash to see how much I have left to work with...etc etc. But that is a safe estimate I think. Speed of sewing, dying and embellishing would of course effect that so if you see others offering it for higher please do not think they are charging too much. I do not want to set some bar by quoting an estimate that makes anyone else look bad, kwim?

And actually, I am checking out the hemp/organic cotton blends right now too...those come in pretty colors,LOL!

If it were a blend like that, would that effect interest?

I might think about opening a co-op for the fabric too, to help meet minimums and keep cost down. hmmmmmmm.........

I'm pretty open to what I get, as long as it will last and keep me from having to buy 4 sets of pants. And I really wouldn't think people were charging too much.. I know how long it takes to make things well. I'm just wondering so I know if I can attack DH from the best price in the end angle. lol

If it's a woven I'd be in on the co-op. I've had hemp clothing and it'd be awesome to make myself a couple skirts.

I wonder the bamboo over beech is to do with the fact that bamboo grows superfast so from an eco point it possibly has one up on the beech?

I wish I knew more about fabrics to tell you what sort these pants are. Would a close up picture help?

YES!
I am betting it is a canvas woven or possibly even the hemp linen but yeah...super close up as you can get without going blurry would be awesome!
