Yesterday my cat bit me on the hand. It is a very small scratch type wound that is only a few cm's long, not very deep between my pointer and middle finger. Nothing I would normally be worried about however yesterday I started getting some numbness in my pinky finger and outer part of my hand, I took DD for a long walk and a play at the park so I thought I just tweaked it. Last night the numbness started going up my arm and this morning it spread into my back shoulder area.

The area of the bite isn't swollen or anything so I'm wondering if this is an infection of just some weird happenings from tweaking a nerve at the park. Should I see a Dr.? God I hate going to the Dr.

I would go in. Cat bites and or scratches can be serious whether or not they are deep.

I've learned that cats are actually very dirty critters. I'd go in. Even if it's just something tweaked, I've heard of things like that being let go 'in hopes that it'd get better' which actually caused more serious, longer lasting damage.

This! When I worked in the hospital we had a lot of people who ended up in there for days from cat bites. They are very dirty and almost always get infected.

Yep, check it out Cat Scratch Fever is a real thing Smile Their bite is like a needle going in along with all their germs and everything on your skin. My sister was *this* close to having her small bite opened up and the bone scraped but the pump iv antibiotics finally worked... from a small puncture from her cat's tooth.

Yes, I was running out the door when I posted, but that is exactly why I said to do in. I had a friend who got cat scratch fever from a little scratch. It is serious and progresses quickly.

Thanks for the advice! I just got back from the hossy with a script for antibiotics, he says that my lymph nodes are swelling from the infection traveling up my arm and they are pressing the nerves. Darn cat is snuggled up in my lap as I write this, he knows he's on the poop list now.
