I'm fat. Like, 70 pounds fat. I don't want to focus on numbers either. That just depresses me. I have a ton of health problems. I am supposed to be getting a bipap machine to help me sleep at night. But, my insurance company is being a big butt and the wait for the machine is going on 3 months now. Sad The machine should help my weight. Tired people don't want to exercise and they crave all the wrong foods. While my insurance company is sitting around having fun playing with my health, I've been doing the best I can to get moving even if I'm exhausted. In June, I was doing really well. I'd take my girls for a morning walk all over the place with them in the bike trailer/stroller. We'd be gone an hour or more. Then, I'd do some toning exercises using one of the programs on the Exercise on Demand Channel. Then, at night, my 15 year old would watch the girls and I'd go walk for another 30-45 min. I got lazy when July hit and I've been lucky to get one walk in. Yesterday I decided enough was enough and I took a nice long walk after supper.

I don't want to focus on numbers for a bunch of reasons, but as you can see, I was doing quite a bit of exercise in June. That went along with eating a very healthy diet and I didn't lose a single ounce. As much as I want to lose weight, I need to just keep going and get in exercise that's good for my heart and muscles.

Speaking of food. I need to cut down portions of everything but fruits and veggies. I was doing really good for awhile, but lately, not so much. My garden is just starting to produce a bit. Well, just lettuce, but there are some green tomatoes so pretty soon I'll have tomatoes too. I need to have one big salad everyday.

The summary of all that:
AM walk
Noon toning exercises
PM walk
If it's raining, I will get on my elliptical instead of walking.

Cut down on portions of everything except fruits and veggies.

I hope this isn't too OT.

This morning I have to have "clear fluids only", and I am amazed at how often I am mindlessly reaching for food. Thinking about it, I'm not actually hungry. But I have had to spit out several things this morning because I was mindlessly shoving things into my face. They were healthy things - baby carrots, cheese, etc. - but still - it was so much without thought that I wasn't even aware I was doing it until it was in my mouth.

I should start recording on The Daily Plate. That way, at least, I would have to be aware of everything that goes in.

When I got home DH needed a break because Everett was being super cranky and crying so I didn't do anything active, just calmed an overtired boy until he fell asleep. Maybe tonight will be better.

Ok, I'm in . . . glad to see so many fellow flabby bean poles!

I've always had a high metabolism which has slowed some, IBS, heart issues . . . so working out can be hard for me to maintain and if I don't eat right my health spirals down.

We don't own a scale so I won't be posting numbers. My weight ranges from 130 to 140 and I'm about 5'9". My goals are to drink more water, feed myself well and not just my kids, and start my workout videos again.

I'd also like to start yoga again . . . at least 2 times a week. I want to feel more toned and energetic!

ETA: I'm only going to drink coffee on the weekends and will start my day with tea instead.

Good work Angel! I so want a wii Smile I like your minutes for sit ups idea...except that would be hundreds of sit ups for me! Maybe that would be motivation to spend less time on here!

Lisa, I know your health issues are a huge factor for you, I think you've got a really healthy attitude about ignoring the numbers and just doing it to be healthy.

Cheryl, I'm the same way. I mean, it's fruit and nuts and healthy type things, but over eating anything is still a bad habit.

Cindy, fingers crossed for a better night tonight!

Thanks Tawny. I can't fault DH for wanting a break and Everett is such a mam's boy - he calmed down right away for me but it still took a while to get him calmed enough to sleep. But it was a rough night and I didn't have ice cream to make myself feel better so that's good at least.

The emotional eating is a killer..even worse than the mindless eating for me. How is it that ice cream just seems to make everything better? Even now that there's only a few kinds I can have, I still reach for it every time I'm having a bad day....

Exactly. And we have so much at the house right now. Two kinds of ice cream, the oh so good melt in your mouth lemon cheesecake fudge from SHLS, and leftovers of an ice cream pie from MIL because she didn't want it at her house. And DH is really slim and in great shape (6-pack abs and all) and so he loves desserts but only eats a small amount so they hang around for a while tempting me I give

I need to exercise more. I used to walk briskly all the time and all over the place, but having a toddler/preschooler who needs to stop and look at every single random thing has really cut down on the aerobic-ness of walking for me.

I also need to get back to meal planning and cooking regularly. I want to cut down on the amount of meat I eat for both cholesterol and carbon footprint reasons, so I was trying out Mark Bittman's approach (vegetarian or vegan for breakfast/lunch, eat anything you want for dinner). Now I think I need to just say, no more than 1 meat item per day, because I just can't give up having bacon on the weekends. I really need a repertoire of vegetarian meals that I can make quickly and that I like. My favorite vegetarian dishes mostly take over an hour to prepare, and that's just too long for weeknights, especially during the summer when I'd rather be outside.

EDIT: I decided that I wanted to lose a little bit of flab before Sock Summit (because I'm going to be wearing a new close-fitting knitted top there--just need to put on the buttons), but I'm too busy dyeing yarn to exercise. So a few weeks ago, I stopped having a glass of wine at night and cut back on snacking after dinner (I get hungry around 1 a.m., when I'm waiting for the final batch of yarn to set in the dyepot). My pants already fit better--I can't believe what a difference it makes.

My goals:
* Walk the dog at least five times a week, instead of wriggling out of it whenever it's my turn.

* Go on at least one hike a week with the kiddo and dog on my days off.

* Don't eat the whole bag of chips in one sitting.

* Cook one new vegetarian entree each week.

* Stick to the "no snacking" rule after dinner.

I eat everything except eggplant, olives, and raisins. I made tofu marsala last weekend and that was pretty darn good (and fast). I love meatless tamale pie (Jane Brody) and polenta pie (Moosewood) but they take so long to make. Love big hearty soups in the winter. I'm open to all ethnicities--I like enchiladas, matzo brei, tagines, pretty much all Asian cuisines ... Really, this shouldn't be as hard as I'm making it!

I think my main trouble with vegetarian dishes is that they don't taste good to me unless there's a lot going on--lots of different flavors and textures. But that often means a fair amount of prep work. When I have time, I try to chop extra onions, peppers, etc. and keep them in the freezer so I can just grab a handful and throw them in when I'm cooking--I need to remember to start doing that again.

Hit me up with your favorite recipes! :D

current situation:
need to lose 40-50 lbs Embarassed
problem: diagnosed with hashimoto's thyroiditis 1 year ago -- level STILL not under control. losing weight is extremely difficult, near impossible. doctors are no help. there are several foods i cannot eat, i am also vegetarian.
i have been working out 1-2 x / week for the last 4-5 months, before that it was 3-5 x / week, just dont have the time. i walk 2-7 miles / day just doing everyday stuff.
i am on day 7 of a fast.

goal:
get back to working out at least 3 times / week.
eat less dairy, only eat homemade bread (need iodine free salt)
drink more tea and water (it is all i drink, but i feel like i dont always drink enough)
would like to loose at least 10 by the end of the year. this is a lot considering i can fast for a week and only lose 6-8 lbs, half of which comes back on when i look at a bowl of veggies Rolling Eyes
get back to
