pre-schooler peeing pants....

anyone have this problem with their 4-5 year old? my son is fully potty learned, but he likes to pee his pants at night/in the morning due to laziness. he tells me its easier to just pee himself than get up and use the potty.

what do i do?? we have had to throw out 2 sofas because of this and our new one is ruined as well. not to mention mattresses, sheets, and all the pants/shirts he wets.

i'm trying positive encouragement....but hoping that ultimately this is *just* a phase.

help! Embarassed

I have the same problem! My ds has been totally potty trained for a year and for the past couple of weeks he pees his pants about every other day. No reason other then he didn't want to stop playing. I expected this a year ago but not now. I'm so frustrated and other then changing him/bathing him there is nothing we can do about it. When he pees is one of the only things in his life that he has full control over. I just wish it would bother him to be wet.

yea, it must be a control thing. he tries to hold his poop in forever too. sometimes it gets so bad that he is constipated. sigh. i just hope by the time he goes to kindy this fall he has settled down a bit. he will be 5 in july...getting a bit too old for this i think! lol

Sully is turning 4 next month and recently started this. He's been in undies for over 2 years so yeah, no reason for this aside from laziness. He does wear pull ups to bed but that's because he can't wake up to go, like impossible. But lately instead of stopping play to pee he'll just go...or drop trou in the yard....or wait until the lat moment and flood my floor trying to get pants down. Yeah, it's a oral phase and this too will pass.

i never thought about the control thing. my 10 year old step son wets himself at night and whenever he has on a clean pull up he will keep it on in the morning and use it instead of getting up to bathroom. he likes to have control so i guess this may be his way of getting some control. shrug

i'm so tired of the pee smell coming from his room. thankfully he hasn't "marked" any of the other furniture besides his bed.
