A little background:

For each pregnancy, my levels are always low and I've had to be put on progesterone to sustain the pregnancy. I have lost a baby in between Piper and Stella to this problem through miscarriage. Early detection of my babies is KEY to keeping them. I "knew" I was pregnant after my brother and I took the kids out fishing and skiing the other day and I about died of the heat. I'm no sissy. I live in the bayou's of Southeast Texas and have NO trouble with heat. But I KNEW after I had to make him take me back to shore that something wasn't right - took a pregnancy test that night - Positive.

I discovered I was pregnant early. Like about 3 days early. I chart, so I KNEW my cycle this month was only going to be about 21 or 22 days... NOT the regular 28. I had a 9 day follicular phase and I always have a 12 day Luteal phase.

BUT - no one will listen to that. NOPE... instead, they made me do TWO rounds of blood work, since I found out 'Over a complete week early I was pregnant!" Uh, no mamm, only 3 days. "WOW, your levels are HIGH for as early as you discovered this pregnancy!" Uh, no, probably not really since I'm a tiny bit more pregnant than you think I am...

No one is listening. They ONLY go by the 28 day cycle circle. So the plus of this... I get to have an early ultrasound today to make sure I'm not "Further along than 'I' think I am" ROTF Uh... no... further along than YOU think I am!

The girls have to come with me so they were told Saturday about the baby! It was so fun! Piper didn't believe me and called my mother to confirm my facts. She's had her hand on my belly ever since... it's a little annoying actually since it's probably only going to get worse as this pregnancy progresses. This baby will know her voice for sure since she talks to him/her ALL THE TIME! It's cute... for now confused Stella was excited because Piper was excited, but we are a little worried how she will take the new baby since she such the boss of the family. She did pick out names for me though!

She told me if it's a boy his name will be 'Charming' - that's a Texas butt wooping waiting to happen, but I smiled and said "We'll see Stell!"

If it's a girl, her name will either be 'Sunshine' or 'Juliette' She can't decide yet.

I told you, she's bossy!

I'll let you know what they say since really... I'm not sure at all what will happen at this ultrasound today!! LOL

Guess What?!

I am a WHOLE WEEK a head of what they thought I was LOL LOL LOL

I'm SHOCKED! ROTF

Why don't doctor's staff ever listen to patients? My doctor is AMAYZING! Had I told HIM what I told his nurse, he would have charted it and adjusted my due date to what I said. He's known me since I was 16 years old and I'm 32 now. He knows I'm no fool when it comes to my body and babies.

But since getting to see him is like rescuing the Princess on Legend of Zelda... I have to hear how:

"Please don't worry that there is no heartbeat, that is completely normal for how far along you are..."

Yes I know thank you. I know 6 or 7 weeks, I'm only 5 weeks. Yes I know.

"Wow, you must have had a short cycle!"

Why, yes... yes I did. Didn't I tell you that in our first conversation? Pretty sure I did.

"Well, let's just play it safe and schedule another ultrasound in about 10 more days, we like to chart the fetal poll in cases of early detection"

Whatever lady.

UHG... so aggrivating.

Oy!! Why don't they listen to patients?!?! I have dealt with this too on a lesser scale, and it can be so frustrating. The intake nurse at my appt. said according to my lmp I am due Nov. 3rd. I said "well that's close enough. I calculated Nov. 4th.". She says " well unless you know when you ovulated then we use lmp.". Me: "actually I do know, and that's how I got Nov. 4th". She says let's just keep it Nov. 3rd. Whatever lady! It's just one day, but why do they have to be so adament that the patients are incorrect? But for me they didn't want to do an ultrasound to date the pregnancy. At least they are now on the same page with you and hopefully in a week and a half you will see that beautiful little heartbeat!!

Congrats, Carrie!

I'm pleased that my pediatrician trusts my knowledge of my kids and what's normal for them, but other doctors have not always been as great.

I had a midwife with my last and she was a bit better about listening to me and my regular doctor now is a bit better too, but I know they're not the norm.

Of course, having said that, the overwhelming majority of people it seems are absolutely clueless about their own bodies (and happy to be so) so can you really blame doctors' offices for "not getting it" when someone as knowledgable as you comes in?

Anyway, congratulations again!

I hear ya. I was charting when dd2 was conceived. It irked me that they wouldn't calculate my due date on a conception date but the LMP date. Ah, well... semantics. The sad thing is that most people don't know their bodies and really don't have a clue. Hence the medical establishment treats everyone as totally stupid. =(

Congrats again and I hope that the nurse can be a bit nicer as you have to go there for the duration.

Aw...don't you just love doctors? When I was 7 weeks along with my twins, I just knew that my due date was July 18. Doc insisted on it being July 27 because she went by the 28day cycle. She then decided to order an ultrasound since I was quite insistant on July 18. Well, not only at the ultrasound did I find out I was carrying twins, but also found out that my due date was July 17! Ha!

I always had 23 or 24 day cycles and charted - so before seeing the Dr when I knew I was PG I would go back and doctor the chart so that it would meet their expectation of a 28 day cycle and i wouldn't have to explain it, LOL! I also needed progesterone to prevent loss. I use the cream now and feel so much better - no more AF cramps!
