Posted: Fri Apr 27, 2012 11:54 am Post subject: Yarn for Sock Swap - DONE, can unsticky! |
|
|
I know when Becky runs these swaps, she does it very simply, but I'm going to go with my regular way of running swaps and hope I don't make it too tough on myself...LOL. We shall see....
This swap is for plain ankle length socks. If you wish to have, or are OK to do, longer legs and/or patterns, please note that in your post and when you send your form. Also, considering the amount of time that goes into making socks, for longer lengths and/or patterns, Senders should consider sending an extra skein of payment yarn, but the final agreement for payment will be between the partners in these situations. Creators, feel free to note any conditions you may have in your sign-up post. Sign up as a Sender and/or Creator in the appropriate section(s) below.
Basic Info
If you have not previously participated in a swap like this, basically, the Sender sends yarn to the Creator to be worked up and also sends the same amount and value of yarn for the Creator’s “payment”. When the Creator is finished with the item, they send it to the Sender.
If you would like to sign up for this swap, but have been on these boards for less than 6 months and/or have less than 100 posts, please PM me the actual links (not just a note of who you are on the other boards…I need links to click!) to all your feedback, including other boards. PLEASE DO NOT sign up until I have seen and OK’d your feedback. If you sign up without being OK’d, I will not remind you to send feedback and I will not include you in the list of participants until feedback is received and OK’d.
If you do not have any feedback anywhere, don't fret...just let me know that you are just starting out in the internet/forum world. I'm just trying to do my best to make sure all goes well with the swap and this is a good way to do so.
Please do NOT sign up if:
• You are on the No Swap List (stickied thread at the top of this forum). If you feel you are on the list in error, please take it up with this forum's mod and if you are then removed from the list, have that mod PM me to let me know.
• You did not follow through with a swap, or if there were issues and/or concerns regarding your participation in a swap which I previously ran, even though you are not noted on the master/stickied No Swap List. Your participation is completely at my discretion. If you are concerned that you may be on my personal list and/or wish to discuss why you should now be allowed to participate, please PM me.
Once you have signed up, please remember to check this thread at least every other day as there may be info you will need to know and of which you need to be apprised, such as the possibility of sign-ups closing early and/or changes to other dates. If you know that you will be gone for an extended length of time, such as a week-long trip, around the time that sign-ups will close and matches will be made, please let me know so that if someone cannot get in touch with you, it will be known why (and not look as though you are just ignoring them).
Rules:
1) Sender’s yarn to be worked up and payment yarn(s) MUST be of equal quality and value. Don't send yarn you wouldn't be happy to receive.
2) Please, listen to your Creator's preferences for payment and work-up yarn. For example, if they do not wish to receive Peace Fleece, please don’t send them Peace Fleece.
3) Ensure that your Creator knows the yarn origins of their payment yarn at least - what type of fiber, name of colorway, dyer, yardage.
4) Ship in a timely manner.
5) If you have unresolved transactions, I reserve the right to pull you from the swap. This includes other boards.
6) COMMUNICATE with your partner(s). Keep them updated, especially if there are any problems/delays that will affect shipping times. Everybody appreciates a little communication.
7) If you are in the USA, DC is strictly REQUIRED. Keep your receipts until you know the other person has your package.
8) Each party is responsible for their own basic shipping charges…Sender will pay to ship yarn, Creator will pay to ship finished project. If the Sender wishes to have insurance on the project when it is sent back, it is their responsibility to provide such fees to the Creator.
9) Return of any leftover yarn will be worked out between Sender and Creator.
Time schedule:
Sign ups: Until 5/4.
Matches: ~5/7.
Send yarn: 5/21.
Send items: 7/16.
Creators, please cut and paste the following into your post, and then respond:
1) How many pair of socks are you willing/able to do.
2) Are you willing to do longer than ankle length and/or patterns.
3) Please indicate any restrictions (i.e., only up to certain sizes, or only with sport weight yarn, etc.)
4) What types of yarn you'd like as payment.
5) What, if any, types of yarn with which you will not work.
6) Colors you like.
7) Colors you don't like.
8) Would you accept yarn other than sock yarn as payment.
9) Classify your knitting experience: Beginner, moderate, experienced.
Senders, please cut and paste the following into your post, and then respond:
1) Do you want longer than ankle length. If so, how long.
2) Do you want patterned, if possible.
3) What weight yarn will you be sending to work up.
4) Are you willing to be paired with a new knitter or do you prefer someone more experienced.
If you are hoping/planning to do both, PLEASE include all information for both a Creator and Sender.
There is no limit as to how many swaps you can do, provided everyone gets at least one. If the Creators are filled with the number of swaps they indicated and there are still swaps available from Senders, you are more than welcome to do side swaps on your own as I will not overburden the Creators.
When sending the form noted below, please do not make requests/notes such as “to be paired with someone who only wants boy/girl colorways,” or “someone who is OK with getting X type of yarn.” I don’t have time to go through the list of posts to see who wants what type of yarn or what gender of colorway, etc. This is why these questions are asked and filled in by the participants. Please be specific when you answer the questions on the form you email to me. For example, request not to be paired with A, B, and C participants (they want boyish colorways and I only have girly colorways), or request to be paired with D and E participants (they are the only ones who state they want girly colorways and that’s all I have for payment).
If you are not going to go through with this swap, i.e. keep the person’s yarn and not send their items, or not send the yarn to the Creator, then do not sign up. Failure to follow through on either end WILL result in negative feedback from myself AND your partner. If necessary, it would be better to drop out of the swap after signing up and before matches are made.
Once you have signed up, please cut and paste the following information (PLEASE do not simply answer the questions…it makes it difficult for me to remember what the question is that you are answering) and e-mail it to munchkinwear@gmail.com, with the subject title "Sock Swap – Creator" or "Sock Swap - Sender" (if you're signing up for both, put both in the subject title and send once), by the end of the day on 5/4.
Creators:
1) Your name and mailing address.
2) Your HC name.
3) How many pair of socks are you willing/able to do.
4) What is the largest foot size/maximum leg length you are willing to do.
5) Are you willing to do patterns.
6) Are there any yarn weights you do NOT want to work up.
7) Anyone with whom you do NOT want to be paired - no reasons needed and I won't share the information.
8) If there is someone with whom you'd LIKE to be paired – no guarantees, but I will try to make it work.
9) In what country you live.
10) Are you willing to ship outside the country?
11) Classify your knitting experience: Beginner, moderate, experienced.
Senders:
1) Your name and mailing address.
2) Your HC name.
3) The MAX number of socks you'd like to get.
4) The size you need them to be and leg length you would like.
5) What yarn weight you will be sending to work up.
6) Anyone with whom you do NOT want to be paired.
7) Anyone with whom you'd LIKE to be paired.
8) In what country you live.
9) Are you willing to ship outside the country?
10) Are you OK being paired with a beginning knitter.
PLEASE keep in mind that the sizing is needed to make accurate matches. If you provide me with incorrect sizing, I can't promise your partner will be happy or willing to make your items.
Requests for those with whom you DON’T want to be paired will be honored (with ONE exception - a list of everyone EXCEPT one or two people. If there are serious reasons why you'd have a problem being matched with everyone except one or two, PLEASE provide me with your reasonable explanations).
I will not be sending reminders to individuals who do not get their forms in to me on time...I just do not have time to chase these down. Thus, if you sign up, but do not get your form in timely, I will not be able to match you with anyone and your participation will thus be forfeited.
When you sign up, please make the first thing you indicate whether you are a Creator or Sender, and if you put it in bold, that will help a lot. Also, when you email me your forms, please also do the same before answering any questions. This way, it is much, much easier for everyone to see what you are signing up for and I don't have to read through the post and/or email to see what you are signing up to do.

Sender for one or two pairs.
1) Do you want longer than ankle length/ If so, how long. Knitters choice. I wear both.
2) Do you want patterned, if possible/ Either is fine. I would just like to know ahead of time which. I prefer semi-solids for more complex patterns and colorways for simpler patterns or just ribbed socks.
3) What weight yarn will you be sending to work up/ I'll be sending fingering weight but the knitter is welcome to double strand it to make it heavier.
4) Are you willing to be paired with a new knitter or do you prefer someone more experienced? More experienced please. _________________ Amanda, wife of 1, mom of 5

Looks good so far.
I did notice one post for a sender who indicated she would send "sock" weight yarn, so I thought I'd clear things up now so it hopefully doesn't happen again.
Technically, there isn't such a thing as "sock" weight, it's either fingering or sport weight...they've just ended up being lumped together as being good for making socks and thus sort of "nicknamed", if you will, sock weight yarns.
When creating your sign-up post, if you could look at the yarn(s) you intend to send to have worked up, it should indicate on the label if it is fingering or sport weight.
Thank you so much...yarn lesson over...you may go back to playing. _________________ ~Mary, Mom to N, grandma to R (10/08), E (4/11)
