Has your child ever knocked you off of your feet before?
I had that happen last night at open house at school.
We all get there and sitting on her desk is a folder with her art projects. Her drawings are pretty regular - then we get to paintings - COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY!
This child can paint! Watercolors, finger paints, brushes - she's got a gift!
I looked at it and Damon and I both shrugged like 'huh?' I looked at her teacher who was smiling and I asked her if she did these on her own. She said Oh you haven't seen anything yet - she's a featured artist in the schools art gallery! "WHAT?!"
So Piper shows us her work around the classroom that is REALLY impressive! But uniform with her classmates projects - but still, good work...
Then we get to the school art gallery, this was us:
She was on of 12 students featured for her finger painting. You're picturing finger scribbles in your mind right now... but it was a picture of a landscape with fall type textures in the trees and a use of different colors of paint to get a realistic sky background. Lots of blends and bright color use.
How does a child hide that from a parent? Before yesterday, I could have promised you I knew everything there is to know about Piper. She has an entire art station here and sits there all the time working on things, but we rarely paint. Maybe that's it?
Damon and I were FLOORED!
I'll take a few pictures of the work we were allowed to take home in a bit - But I had to brag a little!
She's super smart, but a complete daydreamer.
To discover my difficult (but sweet) child has talent in Art! I'm so proud! |

wow, that is so great! I always find it amazing how different children can be at school and at home but a talent like that would be hard to hide. _________________ Crystal WAHM to Emma & Liam, loving wife to Scott.

Thank you guys! I'm so proud.
These are two of the papers she was allowed to bring home. All the REAL good ones are in her art gallery at school still.
The heart paper is one she won a Valentines contest with and the Armadillo was from Texas studies. She though he needed makeup! Very simple but the heart paper was done with a mixture of marker and crayon so she could "get a good difference on the way it looks" and the armadillo was done with watercolors and has makeup on cause "it's really a girl and all girls need to be pretty"
