The day started super early. My parents arrived around 7:30. SIL and the kiddos arrived at 8. Hubby’s brother and his 4 year old showed up around 8:30 with donut/cousin distraction for kiddos. Older kiddo was worried about the girls, so I reassured her multiple times that they would be a-okay! That assuaged her fears.

The nurses, techs, etc were fabulous. The nurse anesthetist patted my head and talked to me, brought me cold wash cloths, etc when the shuffling of the internal organs made me nauseated,

I cried when they handed the girls to me because I was so overjoyed that after all the ups and downs they were a-okay.

When they started the section, the girls were both vertex. Right after they delivered Sarah, Nann flipped to breech again and basically used my cervix as a spring board. They had to reach up to get her out and poor Nann ended up with a bruise on her shin.

Sarah’s nose got smooshed in delivery, so it’s a bit flat. We still have no idea what color eyes they have. They have loads of hair.

I bled considerably more than they anticipated, so I ended up in recovery longer than anticipated. I ended up with a drip of pitocin and a drip of some other med to make the bleeding slow. The good news is that they allow you to recover in your room where you will stay.

I got them latched on for the first time at 12:45 (Sarah) and 1:00 (Nann). They have since spent another couple of 15 minute sessions at 2:45 and 3:00. The slept and snuggled for a bit this afternoon and I spoke with the lactation consultant around 5:30. She came in today just for me, as her regular shift is Saturdays. She gave me some info on breastfeeding twins and gave me parts for the pump. They nursed again at 6 and 6:20.

Both girls have done the BM thing and have wet their diapers.

They are both pretty calm. Their big brother and big sister simply adore them. They are sharing an isolet and are snuggled up next to each other right now.

I'm feeling pretty good. I have some sort of infection and wound up with a fever of over 101 around 3 or 4AM. They had let both my pain medicine and my gas medicine lapse for several hours (had called a couple of times about the pain med). They had 3 deliveries last night, which is a lot for here. I found out later that the delay on the pain medicine had been due to the nurse discontinuing it for some unknown reason, so they had to contact my OB, get the order, get it approved by a supervisor, and had to complete some paperwork for the pharmacy again since it was a controlled substance. They have me on augmentin and zithromycin for the infection.

Since Thursday, Sarah has lost about 6 ounces (~8% of her birth weight) and Nann has lost about 8 ounces (~10% of her birthweight), so the pediatrician on call wants us to use an SNS at our next feeding with a few ccs of formula after they nurse to give them a little boost. I've been producing colostrum since Thursday evening, but Sarah is having a wee bit of a hard time latching given how small and sleepy she is - the latch strength has lessened as she has lost.

All in all we are doing well and should be coming home tomorrow.

Nose to Nose

Nann gives the okay

Sarah looks skeptical

Here they were at 4AM... Sarah was snoozing and Nann was bright eyed.

This morning, Nann decided to try to nurse Sarah's nose and daddy as well. We are fortunate that they are happy babies for the most part.

ETA: They arrived on Thursday 2/12 (28 days before their due date).

OMG they are so precious! How big are they? They look about the size of our oldest, who was 4 lbs 4 oz at birth.
