|
|
When would you like to see this swap opened? Last year I opened it on Sept 23rd with a closing date of Oct 15th, mail by date of November 23rd for international and Dec. 1st for within your own country. There are packages every year that arrive late which ruins the fun of having something to open each day for 12 days. I'm thinking of making the mail by dates to be November 16th and November 23rd, any thoughts? I know it seems really early but it really sucks to be left out when everyone else is starting to open and post about their items.
I understand that handmade treats cannot be mailed that far in advance so partners could always choose to ship those separately at a later date to be opened closer to Christmas.
If it closes on Oct 15th and you need to mail by Nov 16th is that enough time or should I open and close the swap sooner for those of you who make the gifts you send? _________________ Crystal WAHM to Emma & Liam, loving wife to Scott.

Open/Close sooner. Maybe if some people want to participate but can't sign up early because they don't know what their schedule/finances will be like, maybe they could PM you whenever it happens with a little, "Hey, I have some extra time/money, is there anybody who could use a little surprise pick-me-up?"
I don't think I'll be participating in the 12 Days, but I'm hoping for the Holiday swap. _________________ Elly

I say open it right away and close sooner with an earlier mail date (with the exception of food/edibles). _________________ ~Sam Trent

Or with a promise that if you want to ship the whole package at once with sweets that you ship it priority mail with no exceptions to the ship date of December 1st or something like that.
There are many who want to ship treats and dont want to pay extra shipping seperately, but they will gladly ship the whole package priority in December. (within the U.S. only I mean of course) _________________ Erin

I know that when doing Ravelry swaps, most groups will require DC# or some equivalent, and you're required to submit that # to the swap organizer/host by or before the MUST BE SHIPPED date. _________________ Elly

I think sending edibles internationally is a tricky thing. I got some mass produced goodies last year and they were totally fine, but maybe have wahm goodies shipped directly within the us or canada??
And I agree with erin, if someone is sending a goodie and wants to send the whole package together (within usa of course) they need to ship priority. of course even priority during the holidays can be a crazy slow thing.
I shipped my packages last year by the date and they didn't arrive until the very end like christmas day or before. I felt awful for my partner and won't wait to the deadline to ship this year. _________________ ~Sam Trent

Priority mail is almost a must for this swap. If shipped by the first week of December, priority mail is quite reliable. _________________ Erin

Considering the fact that it's 12 separate gifts, and you can't send First Class in the US past a certain weight (left with only Priority and Parcel Post), it's just easier to plan to send priority.
As far as international... I don't know. Definitely an earlier date, maybe a photograph/scan of the receipt to show that it was sent? If DC# is required for those within the US, that would "prove" that anybody international sent their package. (Same for those in the US sending internationally, if they can't buy DC#.) _________________ Elly

There's always a chance that even a priority box will get stuck in the mail system somewhere. But moving the mailing dates up should help. I like having time to pick/make specific things from my partner's list, so moving the closing date sooner would be great also. _________________ Nisha -- Calico Cottage Designs mama of 2 boys 1 girl a and a lab

I know this may sound crabby and forgive me if it does, but i'm hormonal - at least that's my excuse. PLEASE if you sign up plan on posting what you received for packages and at least thank your partner for your gifts. It's no fun to put together a well thought out package and then spend a couple weeks feeling like you were totally unappreciated. Not saying this happened to me, but i know there were MANY people last year that participated and only a handful posted what they got & said thank you.
that is all, stepping off my hormonal pregnancy soap box LOL _________________ Sarah
