My ds is almost 3.5 years old and for the past 2 weeks on and off has been saying he wants his ear back on and then he hits his right ear. It started when he was at a swim lesson and the teacher made his ears go underwater. For the first day or so I just figured he had some irritation or water stuck in his ear. Then he didn't mention it for a couple of days but now he is back at it again. He says it doesn't hurt but he just "wants his ear back on". I don't know if I should take him to the doctor, a hearing center or wait it out a bit. He is a super stubborn child and very shy so I'm not sure how they would even do a hearing test on him because he would more than likely just sit there and not tell them when he hears the beep because he is shy. What would you do? _________________ Crystal WAHM to Emma & Liam, loving wife to Scott.

Personally I'd either go to the Dr. or I'd warm a little olive oil and pour that in, see if it helps. Difficult to say which I'd go for without knowing the child properly though. _________________ Shadow

I would probably take him to the Dr. It might be that he has water in his ear or that he has a wax build up - either way I would probably check it out to be on the safe side. _________________ Kathi Wife to Jay and Mom to Molly Josh

I'd try the olive oil like Shadow suggested, maybe with a little garlic oil in it. If that doesn't help an ear candle might be able to pull out the water. And after that, if it still bothers him I"d take him to the Dr. _________________ Sandy Homeschooling Mom to 5 great kids

Since it's already been two weeks, I'd take him to the dr. After figuring this out, get some swimmers ear from the local drugstore and start putting a few drops in his ear right after swimming. It will dry the water out of his ears. _________________ Scentsory Creations ~stocking etsy only and customs only as I can~

well he won't let me put anything in his ear so I called the Dr and they can't get him in until Feb 15th so I am on the cancellation list. I just asked him how his ear is and he said it is back on. I wish I knew what was going on. _________________ Crystal WAHM to Emma & Liam, loving wife to Scott.

I agree with getting him into the doctor. You'd usually do that before a hearing specialist anyway. And as for him being able to take a test because he's shy/stubborn, on little kids, the initial testing is a little probe put into the ear that tests the ear drum. He won't have to respond at all.
I actually have to make sure to get water out of my ears even after showers or it drives me nuts. Doesn't quite "turn my ear off," but if I don't, it will start hurting within a day and be harder to clear when we go up or down the mountain.
Hope you can figure it out soon. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.
