Next time before you begin knitting a shawl with 400 plus stitches, buy more stitch markers so you can mark them at smaller intervals and not drive yourself up a wall recounting 367, 368, 372, etc stitches when you're trying to get to 369.

(What's your dear crafting self moment?)

Make your own. use yarn in a different color and make little tied loops that can be slid like stitch markers. Smile

I'm at that point with my whippoorwill. I have markers every 25 stitches to make it easier to keep track.

I dont have nearly as many as you do but I have been going through that with this FASC shawl and its driving me freaking insane. What I ended up using was either waste yarn or as I was counting rolled up post it notes stuck between stitches.

Good idea! I should start doing that w/ my FA, SC to make it easier on myself.

I keep dropping the M1L. I think that is the increase at the end of the row in the Far Away. I just get to knitting and forget the increase... Then have to unknit and do it right. Duh!

adding to this.... take that little loop and slid the loop end into a pony bead or other bead and you now have a great marker, easy to see and snagless :D

I think the most frustrating thing about knitting is the counting. I stick a marker every 50 stitches to keep track. Drives me crazy!

Same here. I kept missing increases and not catching it till 30 something rows later. So frustrating.

I raided my DD's hair elastics, all the really tiny ones, so I have no less than 40 stitch markers in my tin at all times and I generally only use the hair elastics to help keep track of my counts.

I did that with my whippoorwill.
I think it is why I am a sock knitter at heart. I don't like that many stitches.
