I am looking for a really easy pair of armwarmers/fingerless gloves...the kind that come below the elbow and have the little bit that goes over your hand a bit and a separate hole for the thumb.
Now, I sew just fine, lol...but my knitting skills are pretty intermediate. So a simple to follow pattern preferred. Can anybody help me find a pattern for something like these? shrug

I haven't tried it yet, but the corsetted mitts from SMSS look pretty simple and cool, too... and her patterns are really well written, easy to follow.

Agreed. Plus Carina offers fabulous pattern support. Also, she has a ravelry group and lots of people on there can help if you get stuck.

I sort of like those...but not the lace up part & buttons. Looking for something that's a bit more on the hand...and longer (though I guess I could alter a pattern to make it longer). More...well, plain I guess. What I want it for is so my arms can stay warm will exercising outside (hoop dancing) this winter. I'm thinking cotton yarn so it will not be slick and make my hoop slide.
Thanks for the suggestion though...I might try them later on since the do defiantly look like something my teenage dd would love. Smile

these:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/toasty-2

i have used the toast pattern (same except without the thumb hole) and it is just knitting in the round. you can make them as long or short as you want them

These are very straightforward.

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/garter-stitch-mitts

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/susies-reading-mitts (could lengthen)

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/october-leaves-fingerless-mitts (I think these are pretty)

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hedgerow-mitts

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bellas-fingerless-gloves

I personally would be concerned that cotton wouldn't hold its shape well. A sturdy/workhorse type wool shouldn't be too slick for the hoop.

I know I'm way behind on the times, so don't laugh at me. I had no idea what hoop dancing was so I googled it. Last week, Tabitha made a weighted hula hoop with her 4H group. They just told the kids that they were good for exercise. I didn't know anymore than that. Now that I know...how cool is that? Now, I'm ticked that I have that herniated disc in my back. I don't dare try that quite yet. Maybe I'll tell my PT that hoop dancing is my next goal. He'll probably laugh me out of the room. lol3

wow, thanks for all those links! I may tackle a couple so I have extra pairs. I'm thinking wool too. I'm defiantly trying the one Michi posted. Those would be perfect just longer. The october leaves one is BEAUTIFUL...but I have no clue on how to do cables, lol...so I may have to learn that before I could even think of making them. But that Bella's pattern looks like something i can accomplish.

And Lisa...I LOVE hoop dancing. It's the most fun exercise I have ever done, lol...a great core workout for sure & gets my blood pumping. If you all would enjoy a good laugh, here's link to a video of me hooping. Been recording so i can track my progress. Smile I've only been hooping 3 months.

Cables appear harder than they are. Once I tried them, I thought to myself, "Darn I wish I had tried this sooner!" Here's a simple way to cable...

Grab 1 double point needle or a cable needle and grab either a circular, two straights, or two DPNs.

Cast on 10 stitches.
Knit across (RS)
Purl across. (WS)
K2. Slip 3 stitches on spare DPN/cable needle and let it fall in front of the work. K the next 3 stitches. Pick up the dangling DPN/cable needle and K the 3 stitches that are on the spare DPN/cable needle. K final 2 stitches. (RS)
Purl across. (WS)

Voila... one cable done.

Repeat

As for hoop dancing... I'm about as graceful as a cow in toe shoes, so it could be either terribly comical or rather injury inducing. lol

Thanks for the advice Laura. I'd have to get some cables needles just to try it, maybe on my next trip outta town. (No LYS here).

As for graceful, I'm about as accident prone as can be (I've had multiple concussions, fractures, stitches...) but I find when I'm in the hoop it just feels right. I'm amazed at how it makes me feel really & I think it's why I enjoy it so much.

I've used even a toothpick or a straw to hold the stitches before. Since they just sit there for a second, you don't necessarily have to use a cable needle (even slipping them onto an extra straight could work.)

Wow, hoop dancing is neat - I am with you on the fear of cables though, LOL!
