I LOVE THIS!
I got a card for Katie and a card for John recently after Katie lost $200 in birthday money and gift cards at the mall . They now each have a debit card in their names. I can put their allowances on it, or any extra money they earn, or they can give me cash and I transfer that amount to their cards.
They work just like a debit card or ATM card. I can keep track of all their expenditures and even put a limit on their spending if I want. I can get a text or email when their balance gets too low. They can't spend more than they have in the account (no overdraft). If they lose it, I can cancel and get another.
It comes in handy when I don't know how much cash to give them; for example, if they go out with a friends' family and I want to pay for dinner, I can have them use their debit card and then reimburse them, which eliminates the "No, mom- there was no change "
They can't claim the $20 I found in the laundry was theirs, either.
I love these things! _________________ ~June

I used to use one of those prepay visas for my oldest...but she's 18 now, lol, so she handles her own money now. But I agree they are great things! I didn't know PP had one. _________________ RHONDA~ tradin',music lovin',hooping, sewing hippie!

I think mine are still a bit young for it, but I will definitely check into it because it won't be too much longer now. Thanks for the tip. _________________ Kristina, wife to Ben, homeschooling, SAHM to 5 beautiful kids.

Oh I've been debating what to get for my almost 13 year old.
She's starting to spread her wings and I want to give her some more freedom without making it harder on her. _________________ Talia & DH Isabella:13 Nikolai:10 Juliet:3ish

Sounds good! Is it about the same as an Interac card then? Do you guys use the interac system down there? _________________ Selina

Interac is the same as a debit card. I think the advantage to the PP card is that they are free where as debit cards often have fees whether just a monthly account fee or a per use fee. _________________ Megan

Most banks offer free banking for students, but yeah there are generally fees for adult accounts unless you can manage to keep a $5000 balance in the chequing account all the time.
We don't have pp debit cards up here yet unfortunately. _________________ Selina
