i feel your pain. i had a mother's helper last summer and she lived very close so it was SOOO nice. this year she is old enough to have a "real" job so I asked another girl I know. i have just spent four days answering every question under the sun for her and her parents (and for heavens sake, we are friends! we've known each other for years!) and now just when I think we have finally cleared it up and she can start soon... she writes to ask if they bring her over, can I take her home.

I don't think that will work for me! The whole purpose is so that I can get things done. I'm trying to pack and move, not run a taxi service.

anyway... I completely agree that it's a pain, and I"m not even trying to find a "real" sitter, just someone to watch them while I'm here so I can work!

Good luck. When I use to babysit, I was always picked up and dropped off by the babysitter. Unless the babysitter can drive. I do the same for them.

Exactly what Becky said - we're interviewing Mother's Helpers right now for the summer and I'm planning to drive them to and from unless they are old enough and have their own transportation. I'm assuming though that I'm driving unless something else works out though.

I hear you too! I'm so glad that my family is close because otherwise we would never go out!

To the pp who doesn't want to taxi... have you looked within the neighborhood? I used to babysit and later nanny for several families within walking distance of my parents' house. With that arrangement, I would walk over and walk home. If it turned into a late night I'd either call my parents before leaving or they would drive me home.

Oh, then I would probably expect her to travel.
I just remember back when my oldest was still at home, she had one babysitting job where I had to take her.
I hated it. She made around 5 hours for the couple of hours and I had to spend 20+ minutes taking her and 20+ minutes picking her up, not to mention the gas money.

At 18, I would have expected that she could provide her own transportation too. I'm guessing that she doesn't have a vehicle available to her? This seems like something that she should have disclosed ahead of time.

Good luck with the search! If you have a local college or university near you, try them. One near us puts out a babysitting list every semester with college kids who want to babysit. The list tells you their major and if they have transportation and if they are CPR certified.

We've always gotten our sitters from our church, I've known all of them since years before I was pregnant, although now that we've moved 1/2 hour away from them (we used to be a 4min drive), it's a bit more challenging.

If you have any churches near you, even if you don't attend them, you could call & ask if they have any teens that might be available. Often the secretary or youth pastor/director will know of girls (or boys!) that would be available, willing & able.

When I babysat my parents always brought me to the persons house before I could drive. But the ppl I was babysitting for would usually take me home. Not always though. It seems similar to any other job to me- where you're expected to provide your own transportation. If it was a really young girl that I was paying less than a "real" babysitter, then I think that might be different.

Me too, the majority of the time. Sometimes I got a ride there and they brought me home.

We have someone who the LO's LOVE and she's awesome. They can go to her house (DS1 is friends with her little Brother, that's how we met the family) or she'll come here. She came the other day and her Mom had to go out, so she dropped her off. But, if I need someone I have no problem picking them up and bringing them home.
