so I'm 34wks. and thought I was all cleared to use the birthing center. but I had a MW appt today, and found out that they are having to scurry now to actually get the OBs to formally sign me off.

(background: tested +ve for toxoplasmosis early on...did amnio and it came back -ve, so it hadn't crossed to baby; have taken abx faithfully every day the whole pg, and done u/s every month...all has been fine; redid my bloodwork at 27ish wks, and i'm now also -ve for toxo, yet OBs are requiring me to continue the abx and u/s)

The OBs have talked to me all along (I have to go to the high risk clinic at the hospital for u/s) as if all was fine for me to birth at the birthing center. now suddenly there's the realization that the law requires them to formally sign me off. Which they aren't ready to do, until discussing with the microbiologist...who is REALLY freaking conservative.

i'm SO annoyed that I'm dealing with this now. I really dislike the OB I deal with each month (thankfully my MW is in discussions with a nicer one, who I'm hoping will agree to sign me off). I really hate the idea of driving the 45min to this particular hospital (especially given that birth #3 happened unexpectedly at home).

There is nothing in any of the research anywhere that indicates that there could be any problems with the actual birth. especially given that the amnio showed no crossover, and I've taken the abx faithfully.

UGH. I'm just frustrated. Please cross your fingers that the decision is made to allow me to return to low-risk status and get my water birth at the birthing center with my lovely MW (who has been with me for all births so far). I should know this week...

What happens if you just go to the birth center? Do they have to turn you away and make you go to a hospital if you are in labor?
Or can she deliver you no matter what since you are already in labor?

they would technically be breaking the law to accept me, if the OB does not sign me off as low-risk now. grr. DH just said to me "well, we had an unassisted home birth last time..." Shocked never in a million years would I think he'd be game for that again. and really, it's not somethign I want to plan on. BUT if I have another fast birth, I'll never make it to the hospital anyways...so he said "well, just plan to happen to have the midwife here enjoying a friendly cup of coffee when you just happen to go into labour" lol3

update - we are good to go! woohoo! I had my last u/s today with the super nice OB (whom I hadn't seen since my first appt at the high risk clinic). she spoke with an OB at another hospital, who actually has some experience with toxo...and HE said "no reason she needs to be in a hospital, as any tests the baby will need will need to be done elsewhere in the week following birth". fantastic!
also met with the resident pediatrician, who gave me his biz card and said "no problem, call when baby's born" (whereas the a$$hat OB I have been dealing with kept telling me I'd have a really hard time getting a ped to see baby right away, etc).

anyways, all is good and I am SO excited to be all cleared to use the birthing center, and hopefully make it there on time to have a waterbirth, etc.

right now though I'm just aching. I'm having that horrid symphisis pubis dysfunction that has me wincing with each step, and braxton hicks like crazy, and now low back pain that I'm reminding myself is likely "just" backpain from being pg, and NOT contractions (which is how my 1st labour started). since having that super speedy 3rd labour and delivery at home, I'm a little paranoid about ignoring symptoms and being too late to get to the birthing center again!!

35wks and counting :D
