well, crap. LOL it's supposed to be 24" wide and mine is really really not. at all. it's more like 18". AAAAGH i'm gonna have to start over! /faints

i guess i'll just add another 20sts or so of stockinette in the middle. i can't really go with a bigger needle or anything because it'll make it too holey. and i think i'll need to get more yarn.

so how did you guys who used the same yarn avoid this?? i'm really not a tight knitter. and gauge for this yarn is the gauge i got.

grrr!

I didn't use that yarn, but let me go and measure mine. I wonder how wide it is.......(going to measure, lool I'm getting up from the computer)......Feel free to sing the Jeopardy song while you wait. do do do dodo do do do, do do do do do do do do.....ok I'm back

the width of mine from one side to the other is 18" but it's really like 9 because you'll be grafting the top of the hood. And the length of it from the cast one edge to the start of the first cable on the scarf part is 11" I actually don't know if that's gauge or not because I didn't do a gauge swatch. (I know bad knitter). I remember when I blocked it it grew a whole bunch in length but not much in width. I hope that helps. Sorry you have to start over.

I'm done!!! It's blocking so no pics yet, but I do have a blocking question. How did you lay yours out to block? I've got mine with the hood folded in half and then the scarve lengths one on top of the other. Should I lay it out with the back of the hood down, front folded on top and then the lengths seperate????

Oh, I forgot pictures lol!

I ended up picking up the stitches, knitting an extra repeat and *then* grafting the hood. I got sick of the repeats on the scarf bit and didn't carry on any longer. And I have enough yarn left to make mittens I think :D

alright - i am nearly finished! finally! i'm about to graft. did you guys do a full knit graft or did you graft in pattern? i'd rather graft in pattern but i've only ever done that once and it wasn't exactly invisible. LOL does a full knit graft look ok??

I did the full knit graft, I didn't find understandable directions for grafting in pattern, it all read as gobbledegook lol The full knit looks fine imo.

I'm going to be starting another soon, I've bought yarn to knit one for my Mum for her Xmas gift, variegated for the main hood part and then trim for the cabling - hopefully!

these are the directions i used last time
http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/showthread.php?p=474749

but i think i did it wrong now that i'm looking at it again. LOL!!

i like the idea of two colors!! will you have to reinforce the joins with some duplicate stitch from behind? or you could even choose another color different from the trim for a sort of decorative "join", kwim?

Ah yeah, I reinforced the back of the neck, where the split for the scarf sections is. Someone else warned me that theirs was pulling there so I used an end to weave in and thicken that bit up a little.

Thanks for that link, didn't find that last time!
