yesterday I had the boys out at a local festival...I was wondering when I'd get my first comment about it being unsafe...blah blah, esp. with that bag sling recall.
of course, it happened yesterday. this lady comes up to me, all in my personal space, peeks in the Beco, and asks if I am sure that he is okay. she says 'you know with all of those sling recalls, I worry' and I assured her that the one I had was indeed a safe carrier. She walked off finally, but told me I had better keep checking his nose to see if he could breathe.
I wanted to say something smart, but I had nothing that wasn't super mean...so I didn't say anything

I've had several of those comments lately too. I just assure them that I am wearing a safe carrier and baby is close enough to kiss and talk to and I can hear her breathing.
But I did have a lady come up to me last week, pulled me in close and actually kissed my baby! Oh and she left cracker crumbs on Pipers face. O.M.G. I was speechless. _________________ ~Sam Trent

I've been getting them everywhere I go for the last few weeks. They're very irritating, especially since I've been BWing for nearly 5 years now, and I know how to do it properly. _________________ Jennifer--wife to Bobby (5/09), mom to Lorynne (6/05), Nolyn (7/09), & Loghyn (1/12), 2 cats, & 1 dog

yikes! I did have lots of people coming up and touching his hair....but I was the one who dropped food on him. I was eating a polish sausage..and I dropped a number of crumbs....and at one point a giant onion on his forehead. Oh, I felt bad. _________________ -Sarah

Miranda ended up with barbeque sauce on her head yesterday for the same reason.
I haven't gotten any negative comments at all. I've had people ask me where I got it and then tell me that it looks much better/safer than the ones that were recalled. _________________ Kari

I haven't gotten negative comments, just the stupid, "DO YOU KNOW YOU HAVE SOMEONE ON YOUR BACK?" comments. I usually play dumb and go, "...What?! I thought I left him in the closet!"

I have not had any comments at all, even with the sling recall. My main baby carrier happens to be a ring sling too. I must have the I-dare-you-to-talk-to-me-about-unsafe-slings look on my face. _________________ Erica

Sam, I can't believe someone did that! YIKES!
I'm not wearing anyone right now, they both want to walk everywhere, but I would definitely get comments around her as people are so clueless! _________________ Jessica~WAHM to Julianne 5-19-07, Jocelyn 8-10-08 & our new sweet baby Jacqueline 12-30-10

That's a good reply! I get a lot of: "Don't you think she's too big to be carrying her around like that?" I Just tell people she's my workout machine. lol. _________________ Christina: Wifey to Mike. Mama to Spencer (9), Gavin (6) and Mattingly Grace (3). |

Seriously! Pirate is 30lb (3yo) and I'm like, "...When I walk around the store for 45 minutes with him on my back, I'm WORKING OUT. This is STRENGTH TRAINING!" Sure beats doing cardio or lifting free-weights (...with my nonexistent time). _________________ Elly

Proof that bwing in CO is pretty much the norm and people have begun to feel they can come as close as they would with a baby in a stroller.
OTOH I always use negative reactions as a way to educate. Yes it's mean but I've been known to challenge someone's knowledge and put them on the spot. "I agree! Do you know which carriers have been recalled and why?" Followed by a long explanation of why this carrier is better. Most can't answer even the simplest questions and get flustered and walk away. I like to believe they thing twice before harrassing someone again. Probably I'm wrong. _________________ Jen
