We are going to be headed to the neurologist in the next hour and we have so many hopes for today ..

1. We can get JohnPaul off his seizure meds
2. We can get him on a good vitamin ... I am super concerned he is not getting enough calcium & vitamin D
3. Referral to the Pediatric Dentist

Please keep us in your thoughts that JohnPaul is still doing good and his head growth isn't too much ... and we can get him off the seizure medicine

We're Home ..

The neurologist thinks since JohnPaul has so many alleriges we should keep him on the seizure meds a bit longer since antihistimanes are a seizure trigger (as is cold medicine didnt know that) ... he said 2 years seizure free (even with benadryl usage) and we could get him off .. he referred us to pediatric dentistry there Smile and told me to pick any good vitamin .. so what do you recommend ?? for a 2 1/2 year old

well it's great to have an identified end point!

as for vitamins, check health food stores rather than mainstream to avoid the higher levels of sugars, dyes, preservatives, etc.

Random regarding vitamins: My brother recently posted on his Facebook that he is becoming an expert in the use of vitamins to treat epilepsy. (He's in pharmacy school.) If you want I can ask him if he has any suggestions. You may have already found out all he knows in your research, but maybe not.

I would be VERY interested in this as well! My 5-yr old has epilepsy and is on various meds. We are at very high levels to even partially control the seizures!

To the OP, glad the visit went well. We were also told that if after 2-yrs of being seizure free and a clean EEG, then we could reduce the drugs. Good luck!

Here is what he just sent me:

"As far as vitamins for epilepsy go, there seems to be some possible neuroprotective benefit from B vitamins and vitamin C. There is also a bit of evidence for vitamin D. Folic acid is questionable, though in women of child-bearing age is probably a good idea--but it can also cause seizures. Unfortunately all of the actual studies were done using mice and rats (I guess people didn't want their brains removed to study the neuroprotective effects)."

He will also be emailing me a copy of the lit review he did for class. Can we do attachments on PM? Otherwise I can copy and paste into a PM for whoever is interested.
