Instructions and Recipes for Soap Nuts

LAUNDRY INSTRUCTIONS

Using the muslin bag, place 4  Soap Nuts into the bag and tie it closed.  Toss the bag into your washing machine along with your clothing that needs to be washed.  After your clothes are done washing in the washing machine, remove the muslin bag of Soap Nuts and set aside.  You can reuse this batch of Soap Nuts for 4 or 5 loads of laundry.  After that the Soap Nuts are not done yet.  You can throw the Soap Nuts into a compost pile, or you can boil the Soap Nuts to remove more saponins and create Soap Nuts liquid.

Fabric softeners are not needed as Soap Nuts will naturally leave your clothes soft and clean.

Alternatively, if you choose to make Soap Nuts liquid to use for your washing machine, you can use 3 tbsp of Soap Nuts liquid per large load of laundry.

Soap Nuts are also perfect for HE and front load washers as they are low-sudsing.

Soap Nuts have a mild, fresh, vinegary smell.  They will not fragrance your clothes.  Your clothes will come out clean and fragrance-free.  If you prefer, you can add a few drops of essential oil on the cotton sack to add some fragrance.

Soap Nuts are great for people with sensitive skin, allergies, eczema, and psoriasis.  Soap Nuts are natural, hypoallergenic, chemical free, fragrance free, and gentle on your skin and clothes.

LIQUID SOAP NUTS

To make liquid Soap Nuts, boil approximately 10-12 Soap Nuts with 6 cups of water for 30 minutes.  You should have about 4 cups of liquid left after the Soap Nuts have boiled and released their saponins.  Add extra water, if needed, to keep it 4 cups.  When the liquid has cooled remove the Soap Nuts and pour the liquid into an airtight jar.  You can toss the Soap Nuts into your compost pile.  It is better to make the liquid in smaller batches as it can spoil.  You can experiment with making liquid Soap Nuts to see if you prefer a more concentrated version boiling in 4 cups of water instead of 6 cups.  Some prefer the more concentrated liquid for hand washing and shampoo.

ALL PURPOSE CLEANER

Using the liquid Soap Nuts in a spray bottle, you can clean the bathroom, kitchen, floors, counter tops, etc.  I usually add a few drops of essential oil to add a pleasant scent to smell while cleaning.

WINDOW AND GLASS CLEANER

Using the liquid Soap Nuts, fill a spray bottle with 2 cups of water, 1 tbsp of vinegar, and 1 tbsp of liquid Soap Nuts.

IN THE DISHWASHER

Soap Nuts work great cleaning dishes, and it’s all natural.  Place 3 Soap Nuts into the cutlery basket of your dishwasher.  This will last about 3 loads of dishes.  You can also add vinegar in your rinse agent compartment.

JEWELRY CLEANER

Soak your jewelry in the liquid Soap Nuts for a few minutes.  Using an old soft toothbrush, gently scrub your jewelry.  Rinse your jewelry with clean water and polish with a dry cloth.

SOAP NUT PASTE – ABRASIVE CLEANER

Save all your used Soap Nuts and put them in a pan and cover with water.  Boil gently until the Soap Nuts are very soft and squishy.  Then place in a food processor and process until smooth.  Now you can use this as an abrasive cleaner.  Store in the refrigerator.
