About Me

my little miracle...

I
first learned to knit from my grandmother, Rosella, when I was about 12. Grandma was a very crafty gal; she could knit, crochet, sew, paint, etc. She lived on a small farm in central Kansas with her ten kids and used to make her own bread twice a day to keep everyone fed. Even though she had about 30-something grandchildren (frankly, I lost count), I like to think I was one of her top favorites. Grandma used to call me her Nickie Nut and I named my business after her.

I was too young then to understand the value of what she was trying to teach me and it wasn't until years later that I was inspired to "re-learn" how to knit and luckily, my Father-in-Law's wife, Jan, was more than willing to re-teach me. I did the obligatory scarf for my husband (which he never wore) and then decided to bite the bullet and made a couple of blankets for my best friend's identical (mo-mo) twin girls. After that, I tackled a cable knit blanket for my own miracle baby, Tristan.

Then I got into cloth diapering and got bit by the wool bug. Sure seemed silly to pay money to someone else to knit stuff for me if I could figure out how to do it myself. Then some of the other gals on Growing up Green congo asked me to knit some stuff for them and it sort of snowballed from there. I mainly use the Bella Donna Designs pattern with some modifications.

I would be more than happy if you would like me to knit up something special for your little miracle.

You can see pictures of my past work here and here.
