About Us
A little about Homemade Mama and our family...
I wanted to take a few moments and
share some exciting things that have been happening within our
business, and our family life.
As wahm's, so often we try our best to keep the two seperate, but often in reality, it simply doesn't work that way.
At this time, our family is in the
process of selling our small hobby farm on the west coast of Canada, in
hopes of buying a larger farm on the more eastern side of Canada! This
move involves not just moving our family, and our business, but our
little herd of animals as well. Our hobby farm consists of horses,
rabbits, 2 dogs, 3 cats and lastly, our chickens who will not be making
the move with us! lol
For those of you who follow my
Homemade Mama blog, you know we recently increased our herd when one of
our rescue mares blessed us with a surprise. She came to us pregnant
without our knowledge until she was about 5 months along last fall.
This put our moving plans on hold while we waited out the winter, and
her pregnancy. On March 5th, she gave birth, unassisted (we were all
sleeping!) to a beautiful little filly who our eldest daughter has
named Legacy. Her nick name is Lacey.
Here she is, just a few short hours after her birth.
And here she is, being her silly self, a few weeks later!

Once Lacey had arrived, and we knew she was healthy
and would be well enough to make the cross country trip, we put our
hobby farm back up for sale! Now we wait for a sale, and in the mean
time we continue our search for a larger farm across the country.
During these exciting changes in our family life, we will be making some changes to Homemade Mama as well!
As
we grow, we feel a need to create a larger 'base', and these changes
will come along after our move. We will be shutting things down for a
little while as we make the move, once our place here has sold. Rest
assured, we will be re-opening though, bigger and even better then
before!
Until then, we'll still be here just as before.
Nothing will change except for possibly a few missed stockings here at
Lily Pad Landing as things get closer to our moving date.
When will that be? At this time, we really have no idea. Once we know, we'll be sure to let all our customers know as well!
Aloha, I'm Michelle of Mother Sunshine. I offer nature-inspired
silks and tie-dyed and eco-dyed clothing from Hilo on the Big Island of
Hawaii. I'm inspired by nature and mostly enjoy working with earthy
shades of browns, greens and blues as well as vivid rainbows (rainy
Hilo is a mecca of rainbows), though I am slowly trying to venture out
into more wild color combos and designs. I always love to hear some
feedback or suggestions so feel free to email me at

Why did I become a wahm? In a very simple reply:
Staying at home with our beautiful and amazing children was profoundly
important to me. Leaving my career was a difficult step for our family
financially, but I have never regretted that decision. My husband
continues to lovingly support me and remind me how grateful he is
knowing that I'm at home raising our children. Sweet Slings was born as
a way to share the Epiphany that babywearing was to me! I remember when
I first really
got the hang of babywearing and what a relief it was! I wanted to wear
a big sign around that said, its really not hard! and mostly I
wanted to share that with as many new (and experienced) Mothers as I
could!
Being a wahm continues to challenge me. As the Mother of a very young
and ever growing family, I feel the stress of maintaining my home and
family life, actively parenting my young children and sustaining and
growing my role as a wife. But its this same parenting experience that
sustains me in my business, even through the overwhelming times. I love
hearing all the comments from customers about their experiences and
especially seeing the photos of so many sweet babes being carried!
As a wahm I also have to realize my limitations, there are times I can
do more, sometimes less. That flexibility is what makes being a wahm so
great. I especially enjoy the venue I have here at Lilypad Landing. For
me this is the perfect place to showcase exceptional items. Its a
place to splurge on designs and fabrics that are above and beyond the
norm and challenge my creativity and artistic ability. I hope you
continue to enjoy the unique and One of a Kind items youll find here!
And now for our Tadpole announcement! Nathan Allen was born January
3, 2008. He weighed in at 8lbs 12 oz, which he quickly surpassed!
Tanner and Jenna adore him and dote constantly!

As I sit around surveying the damage my
toddler has left me, it strikes me that i havent had the time to really
sit down and paint or knit in a long time. During our break we managed
to move into our first ever house (well duplex/condo, but we own it!),
have Mach get tubes in (which improved his hearing from a 65db loss to
a 15db loss!!!), start him with therapy, and most importantly we added
a new member to our family. Cadence Marie was born December 19th via a
very short natural non-medicated labor! She weighed 7lbs 6.9oz and
loves very much to be in mommy's arms 24/7.......
Since my hands are not free, i have had all the time in the world to
think about where i want babyMACH to go, stock, and become........some
of these ideas have been amazing and some of these ideas have
been....welllll...lets just say it was obvious i wasn't getting enough
sleep.
As Cady starts to get out of the newborn stage, I cannot wait to pick
up my paintbrushes and knitting needles (and dare I say sewing
needles?) and be back stocking at LPL come March!
Keep an eye out for my usual fare, plus alot of new goodies, including maybe something for the
's!
(hugs) to you all
I've never taken a babymoon before. I am beginning to understand why
WAHPs get this great little break... not only is a new baby a ton of
work, but I had no idea how hard it is to knit while you're holding a
squishy squirmy little person!
I'd like to introduce all of our lovely LPL customers to the newest
member of the Threebies Knits family. This is sweet little Amelia, born
December 10. She'd modeling a lovely size 0 fitted by Fluffymail.
Please ignore the red sling marks on her legs!

Babies are truly the most amazing little beings. I'd forgotten so much
about how they rely on you, and how you come to melt them into your
lives. They change things you're not even conscious of- how is it that
when I'm sleeping with Amelia, I stay in the same exact position for
hours? Such an incredible blessing, this little person that has come
into our lives.
In business-y news, I'm planning to do some very small stockings here
on LPL while I'm on babymoon, but I probably won't be back full-force
until February. I can't wait to see what my amazing congomates come up
with while I'm "gone"!
Peace,
Rachel
