| Mar 3, 2009 | | Item: | Custom NTMT for Julie | | Customer service: | I contacted Joline at the end of Nov., start of Dec. asking if she could sew a carrier for my sister who was due early Feb. She said she had a few things to finish up but she might be able to have it finished by that date, possibly a bit after. I started choosing fabrics. I chose two Japanese fabrics that were noted to "cost a bit more" because they were imports. Joline told me she needed to finish up some things before starting on the carrier.
Joline contacted me again asking if I still wanted the custom carrier (which I did) and I paid for the listing March 3rd (a month after my sister's baby was born). She said she still had a few other projects in the works and said, "please allow me a couple of weeks to complete".
I received the carrier in the mail on May 18th after contacting her several more times for updates. That is 1 days shy of eleven weeks from purchase date.
When contacted re: being disappointed at the time frame (after carrier was safely received), Joline told me she would refund the shipping price to me or give me a full refund if I returned the carrier.
She told me that the fabric took 6 weeks to arrive and the carrier took 6 weeks to complete and that this was a reasonable time frame.
I do not feel that I was informed of this and the communication (as shown by her quote) expressed a much quicker turn around than 11 weeks. | | Product review: | The carrier is beautiful. My sister loves it and it is very well made. | | 2009-05-23 05:31:02 | | Seller response: | Here is the actual timeline, most of the information is saved in PMs

"Joline, is there any way you might take a custom order for me (for a babyshower gift for my sister)? She is due at the very beginning of Feb., end of Jan.
NO PRESSURE! I just wanted to ask.

----------------------
I then inform customer that I am very backlogged, and that due to the holidays, the EARLIEST I could squeeze her in is mid to late January.

Mar 14, custom ordered japanese fabric arrives

April 7, I ask the customer how long the straps should be as quoted (saved in PM)

thanks!"

"She is a size 8 non-pg but I am not sure what that is... I will measure myself tomorrow though b/c we're really close. Thank you!!!"

May 6, customer replies as follows: (saved in PM)
"Sorry!! I have been terribly slow with all this, sorry!
Yes, the paypal address is great. I'll bring it to my sister so I can show her how to carry Olivia in it (and show her DH), then she'll use it... but without in-person help she may not... and I'm not going to chance it! lol :D Thank you so much!!!"
----------------------
The customer received the mei tai, as stated in the feedback, on May 18. It's true, I didn't get the mei tai out that friday, but I did get it out within a week.

May 21, As per my normal procedure to ensure my customer is happy with their item, I followed up with the customer to see if they have any questions and to ensure they're happy (saved in PM)
I see that the customer has read her PM, but has failed to reply, which concerns me, so I send another PM that evenig
"Hi xxx,
If you are unhappy with your NTMT in any way, please do not hesitate to inform me. I am happy to work with you on a resolution, and would value your feedback if you feel there is need for improvement.
warmly,
Joline"

May 22, (saved in PM)
"Joline,
My sister (who it was for) tried it on the other day (it took her a few days to be able to stop by to get it) and said she loves it. She needs some help figuring out how to use it a little better she said, but I have not been able to stop by to do so (to see if it's her that needs some help or something else). I know she is very happy with it though and that makes ME happy.
To be honest, I am frustrated with the time frame that ended up transpiring. I paid for her carrier almost 6 months ago and it was supposed to be for her baby shower. Her daughter is a few days from being 4 months old and I *really* wanted the carrier to be helpful for her transition in the newborn months. I feel like I've lost 4 months of her use of it (probably the most useful part, and certainly the time her baby would have been in it the most) and she has had to "make due" while the carrier was finished. It's just disappointing. I did not expect it to take so long and I am frustrated for sure.
Your carriers are gorgeous but they are not inexpensive, I wonder how we can work out some sort of partial refund if you are not severely opposed.
I feel like I do need to leave appropriate feedback re: the time frame and that makes me sad b/c I know you did me a favor by taking a custom. I just don't know what else to do and I would feel like I was lying if I didn't.
:sigh: This just didn't end up as I expected.
It's beautiful though, and she absolutely adored the prints and straps combinations.
Sincerely,
~xxx "
----------------------
I'm confused, because the customer didn't pay until March 3rd, nowhere near to the 6 months ago she's complaining about.
May 22, my response (saved in PM)
"xxx,
I am truly saddened to hear that you are not happy with our transaction. While I completely understand your disappointment, I think you misremember the time line. I contacted you in the beginning of March/late February and asked you if you were still interested in the NTMT, considering how long it had been since you first requested a custom. You said you were still interested, and paid for the order on March 3. I then ordered your fabric from superbuzzy, and received the fabric a couple of weeks later (it comes from japan). I realize that the turnaround, in the end, was 2 months (really only 6 weeks if you consider the time it took for the fabric to arrive), still disapointing, but certainly not 6 months.
I stand behind my product, and if you don't feel the NTMT is worth what you paid, please feel free to return it to me for a complete refund. If you prefer to keep the mei tai, I am happy to refund you the cost of shipping.
I value your opinion, and I am glad to hear that you are happy with your product. I did stress that I was back logged, and that your custom would take time. While I appreciate that you feel my mei tai's aren't cheap, I can assure you that I have fairly priced them, in fact, they are a bit under priced. A considerable amount of materials and labor goes into each and every custom mei tai, most especially the quitling and binding, and believe me, in the end, I am really not making any money. I have my tax return to prove it. It is definitely a labor of love vs. profit, and it is that love that keeps me going, and that love that keeps my husband from pressuring me to quit my unprofitable business.
If there is anything else you feel I can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact me further. I do hope you will keep the more accurate time line in mind when leaving your feedback.
sincerely and very warmly,
Joline"

May 22, her response (saved in PM)
"You are right, I see that I paid at the start of March, my mistake.
My sent box now doesn't show my messages to you from before, but when I contacted you re: a carrier for her, you said to write back to you in November so we could set everything up to be ready for her due date early Feb. I did contact you (as you can see by the title of these messages that we have had) asking if we were still go. You told me you had some customs to finish and in the meantime I chose fabrics.
Refunding me $4.60 is not acceptable to me, I'm sorry. I know you said it would take time but I contacted you in November and I chose fabrics by mid-Jan. If I had known that you were going to order fabrics from Japan and not start until they arrived I would have asked to pay earlier. When I paid I did not expect to receive it late-May.
I am surprised that it doesn't seem reasonable to be frustrated that my sister and I have waited "from conception to receipt" this long. I feel that it's quite a long time and I understand things come up but my expectation of time frame has been far different than what came about.
I understand that all handmade crafts are art and I agree that very little money is made - that is true for most of us I believe. I am not saying that you made off with a killing by any means when I say your carriers are not inexpensive. They are beautiful and well made, no doubt why your beautiful things are in high demand.
I feel that this transaction has not gone very well and it seems that we will not see eye to eye but thank you for pointing out the correct paid date, I will of course keep that in my notes/feedback. Thank you for your response. "
----------------------
At this point, I am just so confused, because the customer must surely realized she delayed the whole project by 4 weeks, but I see now, that she totally fails to remember this, just like she failed to remember that she didn't pay last November like she said, just like she didn't contact me in November, like she said she did. I really think this customer must be confusing some of our transaction with another WAHM.
Despite all of this, and the fact that I completed my custom well within the 6 weeks my policies state a custom might take (this includes the 2 week delay of the fabric), I have not only offered a FULL REFUND on her custom (against policy), I have also offered to give her the refund in advance, so she can purchase a replacement before she sends me mine back, so that her sister will not be without a baby carrier. She's not happy with this, and now, I'm really going off policy here, I offer this customer a complete refund minus my cost of materials and labor, way way way beyond the $4.60 refund the customer states in the feedback she has left.
I don't know what else I can do, truly. It is my desire to leave all of my customers with a happy experience, but I have learned, despite my best efforts, that you just can't make everyone happy.
The offer of a refund mine cost of materials and labor still stands.
~Joline (Hibiscus Baby)
| 2009-05-24 12:03:28 | | Buyer resolution: | The dates posted are not confused, I posted them accordingly to paid dates and private message dates on HCart to be correct.
The messages I have say that April 4th the quilting was done on the carrier (with an apology of being behind b/c of family sickness). I gave clothing size for strap fit which could have been calculated by a seamstress who is familiar with sizing/straps, etc. to fit.
In the end, I feel that this has become an unprofessional argument vs. a resolution for me. I think the carriers are beautiful, but I will not do business with this store again.
I have never ever left negative feedback for any previous transaction I have had and it's not a matter of trying to make me happy but a matter of a professional resolution for a mistake on the seller's part vs. arguing what I value 3 weeks to be, etc. | | 2009-05-24 06:11:59 | |

Overall an excellent experience, though there was a delay on the projects that was not anticipated by either of us, I was kept in the loop on progress. Also, when a yarn I had chosen was just not working up that great, Joline shared pictures and allowed me to change my mind and go with a different yarn (which she dyed up for me). Great customer service and follow-through to make sure I was happy, and she also added on some great extras to help make up for the delay.
Product review:
The capris and the longies are absolutely stunning, as are the extra matching hat and shirt. I love Joline's woolie pattern and her skill is evident in the way things are constructed and how well they fit. Joline was great and very friendly. There was a slight delay, but she kept me updated and sent a bonus to make up for it. She helped me choose a completely custom carrier, and even uploaded some prints to look at based on my preferences that were not previously available in her gallery.
Product review:
The construction is fantastic. I feel very comfortable and safe wearing my daughter (16mo ~22lb) in this carrier. I also have worn my son (almost 4yo ~ 33lbs) briefly in it. My daughter has a long torso and still gets great support from this carrier. I think it is a perfect length. I am pretty short 5'2", and cannot wear the carrier in a rucksack carry. However Joline offered to shorten the straps to fit me, but I decided not to have them shortened. The carrier works great in a back carry if I criss cross the straps over my chest, and with the straps being wider, they are not uncomfortable like most MTs. The ease of buckling is amazing and I wear my daughter so much more frequently and it is much more comfortable now that I am not having to constantly re-adjust the straps. This is a great product and I cannot recommend it enough.

Custom NTMT Eggplant with Blue dandelions with coordinate fabric
Customer service:
Joline was very nice to work with. She answered all questions and was helpful in picking a fabric. NTMT arrived in less than 3 wks of the start date. Instructions on wearing your dc in the front carry came with the package. I emailed Joline for help because I was clueless having never used any mei tai before and needed back wearing instructions. Joline got back to me with clear direction and it will be much easier for me now.
Product review:
This carrier is gorgeous. Joline put together the main fabric and the coordinating fabric perfectly. I couldn't be happier. It is so nicely sewn and the quilting is all hand done on the fabric I picked. I had my son in the NTMT for 1-2 hrs on my back and there was no strain on my back and shoulders. He really felt so light back there. I'm very impressed! Thanks so much! | |   | When and where purchased:

Specific item: Custom Goldfish/Goldfish in bag No Tie Mei Tai
Customer service: Joline contacted me within 24 hours of auction close to congratulate me on winning, ask for my measurements, and send me a link to her fabric selection. She was very polite and professional. She gave a tentative completion date and kept me updated through the entire process. The completion was pushed back by a week. Joline gave a sound explanation and sent a thank you gift along with the Mei Tai for my patience. I'm completely satisfied with our business transaction.
Product review: I love the convenience of the buckled mei tai. I like that it closes up small to fit in our diaper bag.
The height of the body is lower than another big-name mei tai I have. For this reason, my ten month old daughter has no head support while napping. The body height difference reduces the amount of fabric remaining for a headrest. I worry that once my daughter is taller, this will not be a comfortable sling to nap in.
I like the adjustability of the straps and snaps. I also love the versatility in the reversible design. Wonderful workmomship and excellent choice in color-coordinating fabric. The No Tie Mei Tai feels sturdy in construction. The innovative buckle design is so much easier to adjust than a tying mei tai. This is our new favorite sling for out and about the town.

Amazing customer service. She was quick to communicate, offered suggestions when asked, and kept me informed about the items progress.
Product review:
Great product! The no tie is very trim when folded and it is easy to fold! I love mei tais but have such a hard time carrying them around as my carrier in my diaper bag- they are just so bulky and difficult to get the straps all folded tightly. The no tie is really trim on and stored which make it very nice to pop in a bag. My 2 year old and 2 month old have both enjoyed rides in the no tie. My 2 year old asks to be worn in it now- so it must be comfy for her! Also, Joline uses beautiful fabrics- I have had compliments on the print every time I have used it! | |   | When and where purchased:
