We just got a chance to have a chat with Amanda of Cute Little Bugs. Amanda’s store offers a wonderful array of reusable items like snack bags, bibs, and unpaper towels:
How and why did you start Cute Little Bugs?
Cute Little Bugs started in 2009 (then named Little Bugs Boutique) on Diaperswappers, primarily as a means to trade. I had designed a snapping pocket bib and reusable food bags for my family, and at the time I was making a lot bracelets as well. As custom orders came in, my products were refined and new ones added. I joined Envy Congo and stocked there for 2 years, then recently opened my own store. One year ago I added custom knitting after knitting for my family for a few years. I love reusable products and making them for others!
What’s your favorite product / best seller and why?
My favorite product is my waterproof reusable car trash bag. I designed it for use in my van, and I think it’s really useful. The straps snap off completely and can be attached to the bag in different ways so it can hang wherever needed in the car. I love giving it as a gift! I have a pretty even split between 2 products as best sellers. Zippered reusable food bags are very popular, both custom and in-stock. I also get a lot of orders for my flannel/velour cloth wipes, particularly the stash of 30 custom wipes at a discount.
Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you and Cute Little Bugs?
I love custom orders, they drive my business! I am also constantly evaluating my products and making improvements. I use them, and I want them to be the absolute best they can be. Confession: I am not a professionally trained seamstress. Most of my skills I have figured out on my own, and I make my own designs. I try to avoid comparing my products to others because I want them to be my own. Sometimes it is hard to fit in knitting time with so many sewing orders, but I can’t live without knitting and I am so excited to join Bitty Fluff Congo in September. Cute Little Bugs is my creative outlet and has grown to be much bigger than I ever anticipated…I love it!
