Thanks for visiting Dr. Freckle and Mrs. Hyde! I am currently engaged in a "restructuring" of my business as I clearance existing inventory and move into an informational capacity. I am currently researching and writing a book about cloth diapers, and will remain "on hiatus" until further notice. If you have any questions, or wish to make a purchase from my remaining in-stock merchandise, please feel free to contact me directly at the email address provided in the "Contact" link below.

Mrs. Hyde's Pretty Cloth

Mrs. Hyde's Pretty Cloth came about as the result of my cloth diaper sewing.  Cutting out a cloth diaper results in strangely-shaped "scraps" of absorbent and waterproof fabrics that are too small for cutting out another diaper, but too big to just throw away.  I hate throwing anything potentially useful away, especially fabric!  So I made myself several cloth pads to try out, and as soon as I did I knew I'd never buy another disposable pad again.  I have found that reusable cloth pads are so much more comfortable (no plastic sticking to delicate parts), and my flow has become lighter and shorter.  Since then, I've done a little research and discovered that most of the disposable menstrual products available today are laden with harmful chemicals like dioxin, a shockingly toxic byproduct of the chlorine bleaching process that the absorbent fluff undergoes.  Dioxin is well-known by cloth diapering parents as one of the dangers of disposable diapers; in disposable menstrual items it has been linked to reproductive disorders, endometriosis, birth defects, and cancer.

I want every woman to be able to experience the comfort and health benefits and the very real monetary savings of cloth pads (most women spend around $100 a year for disposable menstrual products...over your menstruating lifetime, that could total $4000 or more!), and so I began offering Mrs. Hyde's Pretty Cloth in discounted 6-packs in my shop in November 2007.  Sewn using my own pattern, which has evolved and been refined to the current version 3.1, these pads are made using what would otherwise be the "scrap" material from cloth diapers.  As such, the fabrics change frequently.  I do not use overtly "babyish" fabrics for Mrs. Hyde's Pretty Cloth, the assortments tend to be made up of solids and a few patterns like geometrics and florals.  Unless otherwise noted, pads are made with polyester fleece backing and wings for moisture protection (the texture of the fleece also helps keep the pad in place when wearing) with a 100% cotton terry core topped with 2 layers of 100% cotton flannel.

Because they are made using what would otherwise be "scraps," the 6-pack price of $12 reflects only the amount of time that it takes me to cut, sew, and snap a set of 6 pads.  I'll choose an assortment of pads from currently available stock and ship them within 3 business days of payment.  You owe it to yourself to give reusable cloth pads a try! :)
