Welcome to my first web site. My name is Marlene, I’m wife to Mark and mom to 11 wonderful kids and my main reason to start this web site…to be able to stay home and enjoy every minute. We homeschool our kids and what a wonderful chemistry class this has turned into along with business. We are also excited to announce that we are expecting our first daughter in law June 2010!
You maybe asking why goat’s milk soaps? When our daughters started piano lessons the fall of 2002 ironically they took them on a goat farm. They fell in love with goats and received billy goats as a gift. Well you don’t get much from a billy goat so I urged the girls to save their money and buy a couple nanny goats, which they did. I had no idea how much milk a nanny goat could give. We made cheese, ice cream and then soap. I fell in love with the idea of offering our family natural made soap. Little by little word got out to the extended family about my goat’s milk soaps, so I made more. Then I started experimenting with colors and fragrances and soon I was hooked.
The process of soap making I use to make my soaps is called “Cold Process”. That is where you keep the temperatures of the milk/sodium hydroxide solution as cool as you can and the oil mixture. To be able to add sodium hydroxide to milk and keep it cool I freeze the milk and add slowly the sodium hydroxide. It is definitely exciting to see the soaponification take place. To see oils and milk come together to make an absolutely wonderful product is such a thrill to me.
My lotion doesn’t have goat’s milk in it yet. The preservative is an issue to me, I don’t want to use formaldehyde. I try to use goat’s milk in each product. As of right now the liquid soaps I’m doing are using powered goat’s milk.
About Goat’s Milk Goat’s milk is very high in vitamins, minerals and proteins as well as high in lactic acid which helps exfoliate dead skin cells and soften your skin. We use natural oils such as olive, rice bran, coconut, pumpkin, grapeseed, perilla seed, fractionated coconut, palm, cocoa butter, avocado, lard, sweet almond and shea butter to nourish & moisturize your skin. We scent the soaps with pure essential oils and skin safe fragrance oils. Any coloring is done with skin safe colorings. All our soaps are hand cut, varying slightly in size and shape. It takes approximately 6-8 weeks from the day I make the soap to the time you’re able to use it. Some take 3 months before they can be used.
