Hello! My name is Carmela. I am a WAHM/SAHM to a beautiful 4 year old girl, and wife to my wonderful Art teacher/beekeeper husband. I started studying herbalism 18 years ago, and have been making healing products such as salve and cream since. I have been involved with keeping honey bees and using the products of the bee hive for 8 years now, and I am fascinated by the society of bees. I love how they make useful and wholesome products for humankind, such as beeswax, honey, and propolis (a wonderful natural medicine). In turn, I enjoy turning these "value added" bee products into natural health care products for moms and babies. I married into this beekeeping family and became a part of our small family business, the Clear Hills Honey Company. For many years, our family sold honey and other fine products at the Lane County Farmers Market in Eugene, Oregon. My husband, daughter, and I moved to Salem in 2005, where I joined the Salem Saturday Market and Holiday Market, along with some other fabulous local mamas. I have many allergies and am aware of the carcinogenic properties of products with artificial fragrance (when the ingredients in your bath product state "fragrance", you are getting artificial fragrance, and thus carcinogens). I do not use any artificial ingredients in my products. They are all-natural. It is most distressing to me that fragrance is frequently found in baby products, and products claiming to be "natural".
My other interests include knitting and sewing, cooking, reading, lapidary (cutting semiprecious stones), silver smithing, and painting. I studied Art at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and am currently working towards finally finishing my Bachelors of Art. I have traveled Europe extensively, as well as Canada and Mexico, and hope to do more traveling within the next few years. I also love going to the beautiful Oregon Coast with my family. My hope is to show our daughter the world!
