One dozen soft 100% cotton twill Indian prefolds, choose either bleached or unbleached. Bleached infant IPFs have green stitching, unbeached IPFs have natural stitching. These infant
sized prefolds are 12" x 16" prior to washing, 4x8x4 ply and fit
approximately 7 - 15 lbs.
Why prefolds? Prefolds (rectangular diapers with additional
layers in the middle) are a simple and economical way to cloth diaper.
These are 100% cotton, so you only have natural materials against your
baby's bottom. Preemie prefolds are the perfect size for very small
babes, can be used as a light insert in small pocket diapers, doublers
in larger cloth diapers and are also great for post-partum use. Two
dozen infant prefolds are an economical alternative to fitted cloth
diapers for the frequent changes needed with a newborn and can later be
used as inserts in pocket diapers.
To hold the diaper on you can either use diaper pins or a
Snappi® diaper fastener. If you are using EC (elimination
communication) with your child, then a prefold belt is a great way to
hold the prefold on in case of misses but can can be quickly undone for
pottying. Another option is to trifold the diaper and lay it in a cover
and then simply snap or velcro the cover on the baby. Since prefolds
are not waterproof, a cover (PUL, wool, fleece, etc.) is needed to
prevent your baby's clothes (or your lap) from getting wet.
To prepare your prefolds for use, wash them in hot water and
then dry them a minimum of three times, they will quilt up and become
soft and absorbent.
