Care Instructions
|

Because there are a variety of care instructions for washing and caring for cloth diapers. I will share the method that I use on the diapers in my home and list the DON'Ts that will void any warranty.

I have a small pail that I keep in the bathroom next to a toilet. On my toilet, I have attached a MiniShower. After changing my little one, I rinse the diaper using the MiniShower and place the diaper in the pail. I don't rinse every diaper either...sometimes if I am in a hurry I will just drop it in the pail. (No rinsing is called a dry pail method which works wonderfully as well. Of course, any solid waste is dumped into the toilet for older babies!) Once my pail gets full (usually two days), I then will dump the pail into my washing machine and do a delicate rinse in cold water. This step can be avoided but I just like to do it to rinse them out really good before a wash. I then run them on a regular wash cycle with the smallest amount of detergent (1-2 Tablespoons for a medium load). The detergent I use is Bio-Kleen. I have also heard wonderful things about Sun Detergent and again using the same amount of detergent. Little is better! After a regular full wash cycle and rinse, I take them out and will either put them in the dryer or hang them out to dry. I prefer hanging all of our clothes out to dry, so this isn't a special step in my home. I'm a frugal mommy and like using the clothesline when the weather is good. The beautiful sunshine will usually "sun" out any stains.

EXTRA CARE....these special methods will help preserve the life of your diapers/covers:
Rinse diaper immediately if you want to prevent any permanent staining.
Dry diapers on a clothes line in the sun. This will also help sun out any stains.
Always use fold-back tabs to prevent the Touch Tape or Aplix from attaching to other items.
If diapers start to wick or leak, you can purchase Nikwax to re-waterproof and restore the DWR (Durable Water Repellency).
Use Tea Tree Oil during your wash cycle. Only a small amount (approx. 2-5 drops) will leave your wash with a fresh clean smelling scent. Tea Tree Oil is known for it's natural anti-bacterial qualities.

PLEASE DO NOT.....
DO NOT use any bleach/vinegar as this will breakdown the fabric
DO NOT use any fabric softener on any diaper as it will cause your diapers to wick and leak
DO NOT use any diaper rash ointment containing any oil based products as this will add oil into the soaker area of the diaper and start to build up and not soak as it should.
DO NOT use regular harsh detergents that contain phosphates.
