About June

Hi! My name is June. (That's hubby Mike, behind me). We're squinting- sorry- it was sunny that day!
I'm a work at home mother of 13 year old twins, a boy and a girl. I
started my business because I wanted to work at home. I've been artsy
all my life, but I am drawn to creating things that are functional-
that we can use in our daily lives. I received my BA in studio art at NMSU in 1988, threw it in a drawer and became an Animal Control Officer for Dona Ana County, New Mexico. I was SO tired of art I couldn't take it anymore! I got married, and quit ACO when we moved to Michigan in 1994. The twins were born in 1995 and we moved back to NM (it was too cold in MI). When the twins were 18 months old, Mike bought me a wheel and kiln and I started dabbling again! Then we moved to Rhode Island which is where I got serious about pottery.
I named my business "Rising Sun" in honor of my mom, who is Japanese.
She encouraged me to pursue my artistic talents. She passed away in
1999 from lung cancer, and didn't get to see me start up my small
business, which I did in 2003. This is for you, mom!
My 3rd love, after family and clay, is animals. I adore animals of all
kinds, especially guinea pigs (strange, I know). We have quite a
menagerie, from a snake and fish to dogs and a cat!
(It just occurred to me after creating this page and looking at the
pictures, that my kids and my pets are similar in many ways...heh
heh...)
