I had been developing my Not So Flat Wrap pattern and she had asked if she could use it to sew for them. Of course I agreed. I have been feeling that I wanted to build on the notion, so I decided to offer the Not So Flat Wrap as a free download instead of a print product. Cottage licensing is available for this pattern as well, but as extending the "pay it forward" idea I will be offering it up for $.01 as long as you promise to donate your sample to a charity of your choice. Suggested Fabric:
Two layers of fleece (for cloth diaper cover) or heavy weight cotton, hemp, or bamboo knits (interlock, knit terry, velour, french terry, jersey). Pre-washing fabric is not crucial, however to insure proper sizing pre-shrunk fabric is recommended. If shrinking occurs, a slightly smaller garment will result.
Yardage Required:
Preemie - 1/3 Yard, Infant - 3/8 Yard, Regular - 1/2 Yard, Premium/Toddler - 5/8 Yard. Notions Recommended:
Scissors, polyester or cotton thread (match fiber content of fabric), marking pen, straight pins, ballpoint machine needle. If sewing with a machine that lacks a stretch stitch, use wooly nylon in the bobbin and use a straight stitch.
Machines and Methods:
Not So Flat Wraps can be sewn entirely on a regular sewing machine, or with a serger, instructions for serger are shown, but turning and topstitching can easily be achieved. Sizing:
Not So Flat Wraps are designed to fit over the prefolds they are named after. Preemie | Infant | Regular | Premium | Toddler | Fits over a preemie sized prefold folded into threes. | Fits over a infant sized prefold folded into threes, or a birdseye flat folded in half and then into fours. | Fits over a regular sized prefold folded into threes with the soaker held horizontally, or twisted. | Fits over a premium sized prefold folded into threes. | Fits over a toddler sized prefold folded into threes. |
