Andria of Candlebug would like to honor as her inspiration, her grandmother..........
AnnaMarie Valentine May.
My
Grandmother Annamarie Valentine May was born in Spokane, Washington in 1924. She
married my Grandfather at the age of nineteen & lost him to his
battle with cancer twenty years later. Within those 20 years she
Mothered 11 successful children & laying to rest one son. She is
now a Grandmother of 43 Grandchildren. I am number nine (her "special
one" she says).
For
the next 30 years, after the death of my Grandfather, she gave up the
traditional life of working & self fulfillment for the ethic of
kindness, benevolence and sympathy extended universally and impartially
to all human beings.
A true humanitarian. My Grandmother chose to serve
in soup kitchens & travel to places rich in culture, war, poverty,
& history such as Ethiopia,, Africa, & to help
aid in economic growth in urban
slum, a desert-like hillside communities where thousands of poor,
broken, and desperate families have been in need of education, medical
attention, food, water, & shelter. All for the cost of her own cot, food, & transportation. Now,
at the age of 86, she is cared for by her children &
grandchildren, living a bit more comfortably. Humble & fulfilled
with her life purpose & journey, she lives regret free.
Confident
that she did the best she could do with the life she was given.
My
Grandmother inspires me because she is a perfect example of someone who
" Does the work when no one is looking." Someone who understands a true
selfless act. My Grandmother is a woman of strength who kneels in prayer to keep her soul in shape.
She shows courage in the midst of fear &
gives the best of herself to everyone. She knows when she falls there is only one direction to go & that is up. My Grandmother is a woman of strength who wears grace & has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong.
