With this pattern and a little bit of sewing skill, you too can make a reusable, trim-fitting, one-size diaper for your baby! This pattern is written for a turned & top-stitched one-size pocket, AIO, AI2 or fitted diaper. The pattern features a 3-step rise system, cased elastic at legs and back waist, and complete instructions to make your choice of diaper. Based on testing done, this diaper pattern should fit from about 10-35 lb, based on the shape of the individual baby.
An example of supplies that you'll need to make any of the diaper styles is below. Note that each type will require additional supplies that are outlined in detail in the pattern instructions.
- 1 diaper cut* of PUL fabric (for fitted diapers, substitute any stretchy, absorbent fabric)
- 1 diaper cut* of microfleece (bamboo or cotton velour may be used as well)
- Approx. 18”-23” of 1/4” swim wear quality elastic (3/8” elastic may be used if baby has slim thighs, for a firmer fit)
- 12 size 20 snap sockets & caps
- 4 size 20 snap studs & caps
- 6 size 16 snap sockets & caps (other sizes may be used if size 16 is unavailable)
- 3 size 16 snap studs & caps (other sizes may be used if size 16 is unavailable)
- Water soluble marking pen or dressmaker's chalk for transferring markings to fabric
- Ball-point sewing machine needle, size 90/14 recommended
- Printed pattern piece(s)
This pattern is written for stretch knit fabrics in order to extend the range of sizes that it will fit. Non-stretch fabrics such as flannel and quilters cotton are not recommended, as they limit the range of sizes the finished diaper will fit. Included in the pattern are instructions on how to best use the long soaker shape that is part of the design.
